The popular page of the UN WATCH organization reports on shortcomings in the work of the UN and on membership in the Human Rights Council • The technology giant mimics a post in which the chairman of the organization criticized the Ben & Jerrys boycott of Israel

The social networking giant, Meta (formerly Facebook), is threatening to close the popular page of the UN WATCH lobby - one of the important bodies in exposing the distortions in the functioning of UN institutions.

The organization has an observer status in the UN Human Rights Council, which operates in Geneva. The UN WATCH Facebook page has been active since 2009 and has 49,000 followers. Of the Human Rights Council. It regularly brings to UN institutions witnesses elected or tortured by totalitarian regimes.

The organization became famous, among other things, for highlighting the dictatorial character of the members of the Human Rights Council, led by China.

Thus, for example, Neuer brought to a resounding testimony in the council the "Green Prince", Masab Hassan Yosef Khalil, son of Sheikh Hassan Yosef Khalil, one of the leaders of the Hamas terrorist organization in Judea and Samaria, who was one of the most important GSS agents of all time, dozens Millions of people have watched his testimony in council over the years.

However, it turns out that Facebook does not approve of the organization's activities.

CEO Neuer received a warning a few days ago that his Facebook page "is at risk of non-advertising" because Facebook claims "continued to violate community norms".

According to Neuer, in the 12 years of operating the UN WATCH Facebook page, they received only one warning, and even then it was a post that had no problems.

In the summer of 2021, Neuer posted a picture of Taliban leaders after the occupation of the presidential palace in Kabul and wrote: "Predictions: Ben & Jerry's will never boycott the Taliban."

The post, which received a lot of attention as a tweet on Twitter, was deleted by Facebook.

"I did not receive any explanation for the message. Facebook also did not respond to my appeal," Neuer says.

Instead, says Neuer, a threat was made to him that read: "Hillel Neuer, you may lose, and no one is interested in that."

Earlier, Neuer noticed that his social media posts were getting less resonance than before.

After a while, Facebook did officially inform him of this.

"They have confirmed that there has been a blockade in shading for over six months and now they are facing a complete cancellation of my account. I could not understand why videos of my UN speeches, previously viewed and shared by hundreds of thousands, and in some cases by millions, were suddenly ignored.

It turns out that as I suspected, Facebook intentionally and unjustifiably hid my posts from the public.

They are now arbitrarily threatening to delete my account.

This is a Kafkaesque situation, and it makes no sense, "says Neuer.

"We rely on social media to share our vital information on human rights and the UN, and yet Facebook is suffocating our voice and now threatening to shut us down," he adds. .

"It is possible that this censorship was caused by people who abused these standards, acted in bad faith to harass me, but whatever the reason, it should stop."

UN Watch's legal adviser Dina Rovner has submitted an official letter of complaint to Meta, Facebook's parent company.

It should be noted that Neuer is internationally acclaimed for his work.

He also heads a 25-member coalition of human rights organizations that organizes the annual Geneva Summit for Human Rights.

For his work to promote human rights, and for being a "voice to those who do not," he received an honorary doctorate from McGill University in Canada.

In September 2016, the City of Chicago and Mayor Ram Emanuel adopted a resolution declaring Hillel Neuer Day, citing his role as "one of the most prominent human rights advocates in the world" and his contribution to "promoting peace, justice and human rights around the world."

A meta-response will be provided when received.
