The anti-Covid “miracle” pill, expected by all since the start of the pandemic, should be marketed from the end of January in French pharmacies.

Developed by Pfizer, Paxlovid is the first drug against COVID-19 that can be taken orally, unlike others already used against the disease and administered intravenously in hospital.

Its action would eliminate up to nine out of ten hospitalizations.

In its clinical trials, the American pharmaceutical company found that it reduced the risk of hospital admission or death by 89% in high-risk adults who contracted the disease compared to those who received the placebo .

Oral treatment should be taken twice daily for five days, upon diagnosis and within five days of the onset of symptoms.

It could be prescribed as a home treatment to help reduce the severity of the illness but also the likelihood of infection after exposure.

It would not replace the vaccine, but would complement it.
