A very successful launch of the iPhone 13 series:

Apple returned to lead the global smartphone sales market in the fourth quarter of 2021. However, market share with Samsung slightly decreased compared to last year, according to market research company Canalys.

According to the research company, Apple reached a market share of 22% in the fourth quarter of the year - and registers a decrease of only a single percentage compared to last year.

Right behind it, in second place, is Samsung ranked with a market share of 20% - a 3% increase from last year.

"Apple is back at the top of the smartphone market after three quarters, driven by incredible performance from the iPhone 13," said a senior analyst at research firm Canalys.

He added: "Apple has introduced unprecedented sales of the iPhone in China, with aggressive pricing for its flagship devices."

The report also shows that smartphone sales around the globe grew by a single percentage point during the same period, as the various vendors once again faced supply chain problems - alongside a shortage of chips - due to a re-emergence of Corona virus.
