The incidence of new corona infections in Germany has reached a new high.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the seven-day incidence on Saturday morning as 772.7.
On Friday the value was 706.3, on Saturday last week the seven-day incidence was 497.1.
According to data from the health authorities, the number of new infections within 24 hours was 135,461 on Saturday – after 140,160 the day before and 78,022 on Saturday last week.
As the RKI further announced, citing data from the health authorities, 179 new deaths related to the corona virus were counted on Saturday.
According to the latest information from the institute, the health authorities have recorded a total of 8,596,007 cases of infection since the beginning of the pandemic.
The total number of registered corona deaths in Germany is now 116,664.
The RKI puts the number of people in Germany who have recovered from an illness caused by the coronavirus at around 7,206,100.
The highly contagious omicron variant of the corona virus is currently rampant in Germany.
Omicron is now also the dominant corona variant in this country.
Federal and state health ministers are again discussing the corona situation
This Saturday, the state health ministers and federal health minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) will again discuss how to proceed in the pandemic.
According to the responsible Magdeburg Ministry of Social Affairs, the agenda for the video conference includes compulsory vaccination, dealing with the recovered status and general measures with regard to the Omicron variant.
Afterwards, the chairwoman of the conference of health ministers, Saxony-Anhalt's department head Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD), wants to make a statement.
On Monday, the heads of government of the federal states will meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) for new consultations.
