Director Haim Sheeran passed away today (Monday).

He was 87 at the time of his death.



Sheeran was born in December 1934 as Haim Shakrian in Meknes, Morocco.

He studied theater and television in Paris, then acted in the comedy theater Frances and served as an assistant director on French television.

In 1965 he immigrated to Israel and was one of the founders of educational television, where he worked until 1996 and was a director, producer and content manager.

He directed many programs and films, including the program "The Children from the Haim Neighborhood" which he directed alongside Sasson Chai and Alik Vatikai, and was written by Yossi Alfi.

The 22-episode series was produced from 1976 to 1978, and aired on many reruns in the 1980s.

The opening of the series was written by Yoram Taharlev, who passed away at the beginning of the month and today was actually supposed to celebrate his 84th birthday.

Sheeran's film "Dead Commissioner" won a special UNESCO award. Sheeran was one of the founders of the community theater and one of the founders of the community television program at Tel Aviv University. He taught theater at Beit Zvi and Nissan Nativ and taught television directing at Tel Aviv University and Sapir College



. In New York, he was involved in the Spanish-Jewish Film Festival and lectured at several universities in the United States. In addition, he worked at the Institute for Holocaust Studies in Brooklyn.



From 1996 to 2007 he served as the artistic director of the Inbal Dance Company Of the Ethiopian dance troupe "Taksha" and in 2010 was appointed a member of the board of directors of Habima.
