If you no longer want to parship, you may now be able to join a model declaratory action brought by the Federation of Consumer Organizations.
"Affected Parship users can now become active," said the speaker at vzbv, Henning Fischer, on Tuesday.
An entry in the register of complaints at the Federal Office of Justice is now possible.
The vzbv had brought a model declaratory action against the online dating provider because it was trying to keep consumers in expensive contracts in the long term.
The association considers the contracts to be terminable without notice, and an automatic extension of the contracts is also not permitted, explained the consumer advocates.
Termination without notice is possible because users would have to have a special relationship of trust with an online dating agency, because they ask for a large number of private details.
According to the German Civil Code, such contracts can be terminated without notice; this is already the case for offline dating.
According to the vzbv, all consumers who have purchased a paid membership with Parship can participate in the model declaratory action before the Hamburg Higher Regional Court.
Anyone who has not yet terminated their contract can still do so before being entered in the register of claims, the vzbv explained further.
If the lawsuit is successful, those affected who have entered themselves in the lawsuit register can hope for a refund of hundreds of euros for membership fees that were wrongly demanded.
However, anyone who registers is bound by the judgment in any case – regardless of the outcome of the proceedings.
In order for those affected to be able to join a lawsuit, they must have or have had a premium subscription with Parship.
In order to check whether your own case fits the lawsuit, the vzbv also offers a lawsuit check online.
If the lawsuit is successful, those affected can then file claims for repayments.
