For a Ford SUV, encountering an elephant on a South African reserve ended in drama.

A video shows the incident.

iSimangaliso Wetland Park (South Africa) – More and more tourists are discovering Africa as a travel destination.

Certainly also because of the enormous biodiversity on the continent.

For many travelers, a safari through one of the many reserves and parks is therefore a must - either with a guide or with your own car.

But there are many rules to follow, after all you come into direct contact with wild animals and that can quickly go wrong.

A video recently made in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park in the South African province of KwaZulu-Nata shows how quickly this can happen, as reported by 24auto.de.

The YouTube video shows an elephant attacking a Ford SUV.

First, the animal bumps into the side of the vehicle and eventually flips it onto the roof.

Another SUV driver films the process and tries to distract the angry elephant by honking his horn and dissuading him from his attack.

In fact, the elephant lets go of the SUV after tipping it onto the roof.

Otherwise the situation could have turned out much worse.

According to the New York Post, the occupants of the Ford suffered only minor injuries.

However, why the elephant attacked the SUV is unclear.

The video only shows the moment the animal overturns the SUV.

The pachyderms are actually considered to be very peaceful.

iSimangaliso Wetland Park officials are now investigating the incident to determine why the elephant reacted the way it did.

However, in the comments below the video, some viewers have their own theories as to how the incident happened.

"My guess is that they were too fast," writes one user.

Another suggestion made is that the car was idling or the occupants may have honked their horns.

“Elephant ears are way too sensitive, a car idling is like someone blowing a vuvuzela in your ear, who wants that?

An elephant wouldn't do such a thing unless provoked, and for him, the honking and the engine running is a big provocation," explains another user.
