A German Tesla Model S already has a seven-digit number of kilometers on the speedometer.

That's why Elon Musk is not necessarily a reason to be happy.

Karlsruhe – To date, cars with extremely high mileage have mainly had diesel engines.

Again and again, old but vigorous Mercedes and Audi models make the headlines because they break the mark of one or even 1.5 million kilometers.

But now another type of drive intervenes in the competition of the kilometer king: the electric drive.

The long-term driver from Karlsruhe, Hansjörg von Gemmingen-Hornberg, has achieved a certain level of prominence among Tesla fans.

He already covered several 100,000 kilometers in his Tesla Roadster from 2009, but then he really got going with his Model S P85 from 2014: A good five years later it already had a million kilometers on the clock.

At that time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk congratulated almost a year later, and therefore belatedly, with the word "congratulations".

The long-distance lover was already 200,000 kilometers further.

And now the next round amazing number fell.

The kilometer killer reported a reading of no less than 1.5 million, as reported by 24auto.de and his post on Twitter proves:

The next goal would now be almost 1.61 million kilometers, i.e. a million miles - then Mister Musk might be tempted to say a word of admiration again.

According to the Stromer fan, he currently drives more than 600 kilometers a day, mostly at a moderate speed on the motorway.

Tesla Model S runs and runs and runs: the motor and battery have been replaced several times

There are hardly any costs for this, since this Model S is still one of those vehicles that are allowed to charge for free on superchargers for life.

Maybe that explains Musk's restrained enthusiasm for its durability.

Especially since Tesla has already incurred some costs: As the online portal “Teslamag” reports, the Texans have had to replace the battery three times under warranty.

The current one has only lost around two percent of its capacity after 280,000 kilometers.

Most of the problems, however, are caused by the engine, which is said to have been replaced eight times - especially in the early days.

Nevertheless: The electric drive is probably still a little far from the legendary running times of diesel engines.
