Mercedes has launched the most powerful AMG production model to date.

Contrary to what you might expect, the 843 hp bullet is not an electric car.

Stuttgart/Affalterbach – The German premium manufacturers in particular want to appear to the public as if they now only rely on electric cars.

Only recently, Mercedes presented the EQS AMG 53, a top model with over 760 hp with electric drive, which even outshined the venerable S-Class.

In time, however, it will come onto the market with the same high-performance engine that is now celebrating its premiere in the AMG GT 4-door, which has receded into the background.

The coupé-like luxury sedan with four doors and the rounded power rear in the style of the former Porsche 928 is now attracting customers with a new top model, as reported by 24auto.de.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance delivers an impressive 843 hp and sprints to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds.

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance: That's how strong the new top model is

The designation Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance is more unwieldy than ever and was at least shortened by the 4matic annex.

The well-known four-liter V8 with double charging provides the extremely sporty drive.

Instead of the usual 470 kW / 639 hp / 900 Nm of the standard model, the eight-cylinder turbo gets an additional power boost from an electric motor that contributes a further 150 kW / 204 hp / 320 Nm of maximum power at the rear.

In continuous operation it is at least 70 kW / 95 hp.

The only 6.1 kWh battery pack ensures an electric range of just twelve kilometers.

The total output of the 2.4-ton power hybrid increases to 620 kW / 843 hp and 1,400 Nm maximum torque.

While other plug-in hybrids deceive customers on paper and screen with a tiny consumption, the powerhouse from Affalterbach is a broad track more honest.

Since the electric motor is not intended for the electric range or a reduction in consumption, but to improve driving dynamics, the standard consumption is given as 7.9 liters of premium fuel or 12.0 kWh per 100 kilometers.

For most customers who can now order the Kraftmeier at prices starting at 196,897 euros, the driving performance is likely to be significantly more important than the standard consumption.

The all-wheel-drive vehicle accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and to 200 km/h in just under ten seconds.

The market launch for the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance is in April – prices start at 196,897 euros.

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance: Edition model for the market launch

Despite the manageable quantities, the drive concept differs significantly from that of the well-known Mercedes S-Class hybrids, because the electric motor and the battery pack with a capacity of only 6.1 kWh are located directly on the rear axle.

The electric motor is integrated with an electrically operated two-speed gearbox and the electronically controlled rear axle locking differential in a compact electric drive unit.

The two-speed gearbox on the rear axle, with its specially tuned ratio, ensures the spread from high wheel torque to agile starting and continuous performance at higher speeds.

An electric actuator engages second gear at a maximum speed of 140 km/h, which corresponds to the maximum speed of the electric motor of around 13,500 rpm.

At the market launch in April, an edition model with exclusive standard equipment is available for a surcharge of almost 22,000 euros.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE offers performance in addition to air suspension, a ceramic composite brake system, 21-inch forged wheels and extensive nappa leather appointments.
