Fine: Engine runs when the windows are scratched free?
It can get that expensive

Before you get into the car in the morning, you often have to scratch the windows again.
Warming up the engine may seem practical, but it can be expensive.
It's tempting:
when scraping ice*
, warm up the interior of the car and the cooled windows by letting the engine run.
However, this damages the environment and makes unnecessary noise and is therefore punished with a fine of
up to 80 euros
, warns the ADAC.
It is better to plan enough time for the ice scraping.
And at least you get a little warmer when you move.
Just scraping a peephole is not enough.
If the panes are not completely clear, there is a risk of a fine of 10 euros.
When scraping the windows, the engine must remain off.
By the way, a peephole is not enough.

Then use this trick
When scratching, don't exert too much pressure and don't scrape back and forth too wildly.
Otherwise, dirt particles will act like sandpaper and damage the pane.
A sturdy plastic scraper is best, never one made of metal.

Do not under any circumstances de-ice them this way
If you want to prevent iced windows, you can cover the windshield with a film.
Also important for good visibility: enough antifreeze in the windshield wiper system.
