The Toyota Century is a true classic.

The students at Nihon Automobile Technical College have now transformed it into a lowrider stretch limo.

Tokyo (Japan) – The Toyota Century is quite a special car.

Because while the latest generations of Golf, Astra and Co hardly bear any resemblance to their ancestors, the Japanese sedan has hardly changed.

The third generation exudes the same 1960s charm on the outside as it did in 1967, when the Toyota Century first came onto the market.

In Japan, the Century is considered the Toyota flagship, in which the Kaiser also travels.

In the eyes of some students at the Nihon Automobile Technical College, however, the sedan has potential for more, as 24auto.de reports.

Accordingly, they converted a second generation Century - which was built between 1997 and 2017 - for the Tokyo Auto Salon.

The result was a cross between a stretch limousine and an American low-rider, with which the students were able to prevail against a number of professional garages in the limousine category.

It owes its low vehicle height to a hydraulic chassis.

The car was painted in a two-tone gold and burgundy shade with metal flakes.

The burgundy red is the original color of a Honda CR-V.

In addition, the eight students extended the wheelbase of the Toyota Century by an impressive 1,400 millimeters.

In fact, the Nihon Automobile Technical College only allowed 1,000 millimeters for fear the car wouldn't fit in a paint booth or on a standard trailer, team leader Ruka Kuraski explained, according to Japanese Nostalgic Car in Tokyo.

He only informed his superior afterwards.

Toyota Century: Low budget and little time for conversion

Due to the extended wheelbase, the Toyota Century now measures an impressive 6.654 meters and is therefore longer than the Rolls-Royce Phantom LWB - currently the longest production car.

Quite an achievement considering the eight-strong team had a budget of just 1 million yen ($9,000) and 120 days.

Despite the tight budget, the students installed a full-fledged bar inside the Toyota Century.

There was no longer enough money for a new face.

Actually, the conversion should have gotten the front of the current generation of the sedan.
