Simultaneously with the movie "Uncharted" - how are the new games in the series? | Israel today

The Uncharted 4 PlayStation 5 remasters and The Lost Legacy spin-off are no less than excellent, so why not buy them anyway?

This coincidence is certainly not:

very close to the arrival of the movie "Uncharted" on the cinema screens, Sony is releasing the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection remaster package for the PlayStation 5.

This case contains the excellent Uncharted 4 launched in 2016 for the PlayStation 4, and the spin-off (its standalone expansion) The Lost Legacy, which was released for the same console about a year later.

Uncharted 4,

The updated versions give the titles, based on the exact same engine, a handful of minor technical upgrades, mostly graphics, that are realized thanks to the capabilities of the PlayStation 5. And that's all.

You will not find new stages, updated game modes or even bonuses and special additions that have not been seen before.

Unfortunately, this is not an upgraded and expanded May Edition for a new (no longer so) console, as has been done in recent months with the excellent Ghost of Tsushima and the disappointing Death Stranding.

Uncharted 4,

Same lady, but really

In fact, apart from those individual polishes, which feature impressive graphics at 30 frames per second in 4K resolution;

Extremely fast charging times and support for the various functions that the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller boasts (including vibrations and trigger buttons that resist in certain situations - hanging on ropes for example), you will not notice differences between the original versions of Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy and the new ones.

In fact, there is one significant difference: the new case is for a single player only, since Sony deducted from Uncharted 4 its successful multiplayer mode, which gave us quite a few hours of enjoyment in the middle of the previous decade.

Too bad.

There is no denying that Uncharted 4, the latest episode (for now) of the adventurous and treasure hunter Nathan Drake, a sort of hybrid between Indiana Jones and Lara Croft, is one of the best and most impressive action-adventure games ever, not just for the PlayStation - But in general.

The same goes for Nathan's hairline, which even after so many years of getting out of the dental skin from near-certain deaths, has not even receded an inch.

The spin-off The Lost Legacy, starring a sort of Nathan female counterpart called Chloe Fraser, was also very enjoyable, but about a third longer than the original game and many tend to see it as nothing more than an invested expansion pack, though it can be played separately without having to install the original.

The thing is this: it's hard for us to imagine a PlayStation 4 owner who has never played Uncharted 4, so it's hard for us to recommend repurchasing his new and quite identical version, even though it's a first-rate action-adventure game that perfectly mixes stages of shooting, hitting , Puzzles and platforms, and boasts the best production values on the market (however, the game was developed by elite studio Naughty Dog, which is also responsible for The Last of Us).

Uncharted 4,

Why pay if you can for free?

Okay, but what about PlayStation 5 owners, youngsters and teens for example, who missed the original game when it first came out?

Don't they deserve to enjoy this masterpiece?

Obviously they deserve it, and that's even a moral obligation for them, since we do not want them to grow up with such a big hole in their gamer education.

But get a secret: PlayStation 5 owners who subscribe to the PlayStation Plus service - and most likely this console owner nowadays - can download the original version of Uncharted 4 for free as part of the PS Plus Collection, which features 19 other great PlayStation 4 titles for free download.

All of these games work smoothly on the PlayStation 5 and still look and sound great, so there's no dilemma here: why pay when you can for free (or for a token monthly subscription fee that pays anyway)?

Also, anyone who insists on The Lost Legacy alone is welcome to purchase his original version for a few tens of shekels, and save the surplus for the intriguing Horizon: Forbidden West, Sony's next exclusive game, which is already just beyond the horizon.

Bottom line:

Yes, Uncharted 4 and its spinoff are amazing games.

Despite this, it is inevitable to appreciate that their updated versions are coming out right now mainly to promote the new movie on which it is based, as they do not provide significant added value compared to the original titles, which can now be obtained for nothing in money and less.

Even Nathan Drake himself, a guy who made a career out of getting ancient treasures without spending a penny on them, would urge you to think twice.

5/10 in money

10/10 for free

Tested version:

PlayStation 5. The game is expected to be released for PC soon.
