Tesla recall over fart function – Elon Musk blames the “fun police”

Tesla has gotten a recall in the USA with a curious function - it's about farting noises while driving.

Austin (USA) - It's sometimes exactly these things that many Tesla customers love their brand for: little gimmicks that other automakers don't offer.

Tesla once attracted attention with a whoopee cushion function that could be used to fool passengers.

Later there was also the option of using the external speakers for all sorts of strange noises.

Instead of a normal horn, for example, there was also a farting noise, the bleating of a goat or "La Cucaracha".

This is now over, Tesla has to turn off the function – at least while driving.

Boss Elon Musk (50) apparently doesn't find it funny at all, as reported by 24auto.de.

As the US traffic authority NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) explained, the "boombox" sounds, which can be played to the outside, could mask the sound of the pedestrian warning system while driving.

Accordingly, pedestrians may not be able to detect an approaching vehicle.

That's why the NHTSA has now asked Tesla to disable the fart-horn function at least while driving.

Apparently not exactly happy about the new recall: Tesla boss Elon Musk.

Tesla recall due to fart function: update for almost 580,000 vehicles

Accordingly, there is now an official recall for almost 580,000 Tesla vehicles.

Tesla will shut down the fart function while driving via an over-the-air update.

The Texan electric car manufacturer recently had to announce a recall because vehicles with activated “Full Self-Driving” function in the beta stage simply drove over stop signs.

In general, the FSD software still has glaring weaknesses, as the video of a Model Y owner shows.

Models of the Y, X and S series from year 2020 and some Model 3 vehicles from year 2017 are affected by the extensive recall. Tesla boss Elon Musk was obviously not enthusiastic about the recall.

When asked by a Twitter user what the reason for the "Boombox" recall was, the 50-year-old replied: "The fun police forced us to do it (sigh)."
