Mars: a strange pebble “in the shape of a sex-toy” seen on the red planet, kingdom of pareidolia

A few weeks after the “alien cube” spotted by a Chinese rover, Curiosity photographed a stone on the red planet whose origin

Curiosity has never lived up to its name so well.

A photo taken last week by the NASA robot, which has been exploring the planet Mars since 2012, indeed intrigues internet users to the fullest extent, who do not hesitate to compare its shape to… a sex toy.

The photo of the small stone, taken at the Gale crater, was shared on Twitter by Paul Scott Anderson, an American journalist which drew hilarious reactions.

I recognize that - it's a Martian female pleasure device - must have been dropped (not by me 😏)

“I am sure that this tool dedicated to Martian female pleasure had to be abandoned (but not by me)”, comments this Internet user.

“Martian pleasure stimulator,” adds another.

Others see it as a stiletto shoe.

A face, a shape...

Even if humor is at work here - erosion is undoubtedly the scientific explanation behind this shape - pareidolia, the brain's tendency to create meaning by associating random shapes, often plays full tube with photos of the red planet.

Two years ago, Perseverance took a snapshot in which it was easy to distinguish the shape of a human face.

Sometimes things go further: a few weeks ago, a mysterious cube observed by a Chinese robot on the dark side of the Moon had hit the headlines, some seeing it as proof of an extraterrestrial object, before the truth came shower fantasies: it was an optical illusion.

With this Martian “sex-toy”, however, we were entitled to a new type of reaction: an NFT company, these virtual collectibles, contacted the journalist to explain to him that the image of the stone belonged to him… while this photo is made available to the public by the US space agency.

“Reserved rights on the Stone”

Very seriously, the company NEO NFT sent a letter to Paul Scott Anderson explaining to him that he had "the reserved rights on the Stone" and urging him to delete all the images posted on his Twitter account.

The company also adds that if the journalist complained to the authorities, it would be "caftage".

Neo NFT claims to sell "NFTs that give us mining rights to near-Earth asteroids".

And on Martian sex toys apparently too.
