The murder of Amanda Glain, killed by her peacekeeper spouse, is not a unique case.

If the police or the gendarmes are armed, those who kill their partner or companion are rather rare.

“It happens very rarely.

Personally, I have never had to deal directly with a case like this", confides Maryvonne Caillibotte, the Versailles prosecutor and experienced magistrate who has long carried the voice of society before the jurors of the Assize Court of Paris.

The secretary general of the SGP-Police Unit, Grégory Joron, also ensures this.

“Civil servants are the image of society and often show the way forward,” he notes.

In ten years, we have found five examples, in Île-de-France, of spousal murders involving police or gendarmes in Île-de-France.

The last in the Paris region dates from February 3, 2021, in La Celle-Saint-Cloud (Yvelines).

Around 10 p.m., Bel-Ébat residence, a 31-year-old policeman shot and killed his 29-year-old colleague and mistress, before turning his gun on himself.

Two years earlier, in Jouars-Pontchartrain, a 24-year-old civil servant, stationed in Pantin (Seine-Saint-Denis), had stabbed his ex-companion to death.

Crazy in love, he had not supported the break and had brought to his former lover, 25 years old, thirty-four stab wounds which will be fatal to him.

In July 2018, the Yvelines Assize Court sentenced a 28-year-old police officer to ten years in prison for the murder of his companion, who was shot on October 16, 2011, at their home in Carrières-sous-Poissy.

He maintained that he opened fire on his companion, who was watching television on the sofa, playing with his weapon, which he believed to be unloaded.

The prosecution believed that the accused shot her because she wanted to leave him.

The gendarmes are also concerned.
