Despite Russia's invasion of Ukraine, members of the European Broadcasting Union, which produces the Eurovision Song Contest, said Russia's and Ukraine's representatives would be able to take part in the competition, which will take place in May in Turin, Italy.
This after the public broadcaster in Ukraine today (Thursday) called on the European Broadcasting Union to suspend Russia's membership from the union and boycott it from participating in this year's Eurovision, claiming that Russian broadcasters are "Kremlin mouthpieces and key tools of political propaganda" and took part in "systematic dissemination of disinformation" Against Ukraine, and further argued that it was "contrary" to the values of the European Broadcasting Union.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said: "The Eurovision Song Contest is a cultural and non-political event that unites nations and celebrates diversity through music. Public broadcasting networks in Russia and Ukraine have pledged to attend the event in Turin this year, and we currently plan to welcome artists from both countries.

Last week, Alina Pash, who was chosen to represent Ukraine at Eurovision 2022, announced herself to retire from the competition.
Pash wrote on her Instagram account: "I am a citizen of Ukraine, I obey the laws of Ukraine, I try to bring the tradition and values of Ukraine to the world. I am an artist, not a politician. I do not have an army of public relations people, executives and lawyers "My heart and threats. With a heavy heart, I withdraw my candidacy as Ukraine's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest. I want to thank everyone who supported me."
This is against the background of allegations that Pash supports Russia and visited the Crimea in 2015, on a flight from Moscow after annexation, that is, in violation of Ukrainian law.
Pash herself claimed that she got there by bus via the land border and presented to Ukrainian television documents proving this she claimed.
