It is never easy to redesign a classic, and Peugeot chooses to change everything for the new 308, the tenth generation of the sedan that brought so much luck to the House of the Lion.

Everything is renewed in this car which historically is positioned halfway between the small ones of the brand - those of the 200 series - and the larger ones of the 500 series.


    ANSA Motori has subjected the new 308 5-door sedan to a long test ( also exists in station wagon version) in GT Pack Hybrid 225 version with 8-speed automatic gearbox, powered by a 180 HP 1.6 l PureTech engine combined with a 110 HP electric motor, which guarantees up to 59 km of 100% electric range (WLTP).

    The renewed lines of the 308 hybrid follow Peugeot's new stylistic course, and this car differs from the current market trend.

Only 144 cm high, it is 185 cm wide for an overall length of 437 cm: right from the agile and sporty appearance, it is designed by decisive features and a strong personality.

The front light cluster, with headlamps equipped with LED technology from the first trim level, frames - together with the deep claws of the daytime running lights - a redesigned grille on which the new Peugeot logo stands out.

The entire front is muscular, and the grain that marks the entire belt deepens further on the rear, where it encapsulates the tailgate opening controls, invisible to the eye.

The rear is one of the strong points of this car that winks at lovers of sports cars, with sloping roof, small and oblique rear window, thin headlights and - for the test version - double chromed exhaust.

A decisive change of pace, therefore, with respect to the family car lines that had characterized the series so far.

The trunk measures 412 liters (28 under the carpet) which became 1323 with the rear seats folded down.


    The new course of the house of the Lion, also identified by the new logo that stands out on the grille and tailgate, is appreciated even more when getting on board.

The entire passenger compartment is modeled around the i-cockpit, the dashboard with essential and enveloping lines, developed all the way in length and which remains just below the line of sight.


    At the center stands the renewed fully customizable infotainment system, with the mirroring mode now wireless.

The high-definition 10-inch central touchscreen is customizable with widgets or shortcuts, like a tablet.


    The contoured steering wheel is firm in the grip thanks to a driving position also calibrated towards the bottom, more like a sports car than a sedan.

The 8-speed automatic gearbox adapts to the pace, easily passing from the more urban modes - Eco and Normal - to the Sport one, which changes not only sound, suspension and engine response, but also the dashboard layout.


    The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 12.4 kWh.


    There are two types of on-board chargers, suitable for both columns and domestic sockets.

In the end, the consumption recorded by us on a mixed route is about 16 km / liter.

From adaptive cruise control to automatic emergency braking, from the active lane departure warning to the system capable of warning the driver in case of distraction while driving, up to the electric parking brake on all versions.

The attack price is 24.30 euros, while over 43 thousand are needed for the car under test.


    At the wheel, our 308 is lively, capable of responding to solicitations, with interesting ideas especially in the Sport mode, and while not betraying the origin, it leaves its mark: with the new claws, the Lion is ready to scratch.
