The police in the US city of Spokane have tested two Tesla Model Y for their purposes - with a clear result: they no longer want to buy cars of the type.

Spokane (USA) - At least when it comes to acceleration, most combustion engines hardly stand a chance against a reasonably powerful electric car.

In other areas things are a bit different - for example when it comes to charging: Not only does it take much longer than pumping fuel into the tank - the Stromer also differ greatly in terms of charging time.

And the range of many e-cars is still criticized by many as too small.

Nevertheless, a US city wanted to try out how Stromer could be used in police operations - and for this purpose bought two Tesla Model Y, which were converted accordingly.

The result: quite sobering, as reported by 24auto.de.

The city of Spokane in the US state of Washington has set itself the goal of switching to e-mobility.

As “The Spokesman-Review” reports, the city therefore bought two Tesla Model Y for the police last year – a YouTuber tested the Stromer for two years.

According to the report, it cost 30,000 US dollars (the equivalent of around 27,500 euros) to convert the Teslas into police vehicles.

But the officials are anything but satisfied with the Texan electric vehicles - but primarily neither because of the range nor because of any charging problems.

Tesla Model Y fails officials: "You are not suitable as a police car"

“They are not suitable as a police car.

You are too small.

They are not designed for policing," Maj. Michael McNab told the Spokane City Public Safety and Health Committee, according to the report.

Employee surveys revealed that the officials in the Tesla with the appropriate equipment felt restricted.

The police would rather continue to rely on hybrid SUVs from Ford.

Tesla Model Y fails officials – but the city council insists on electric cars

However, the Spokane City Council, particularly its President Breean Beggs, is insisting that the city switch to all-electric alternatives.

That's why the police should try other electric cars, such as the new Ford F-150 Lightning.

According to The Spokesman Review, Beggs believes electric cars will last longer than hybrids and save money too.

The Spokane police want to buy 64 new vehicles this year – whether these will also include purely electric vehicles remains to be seen.

The Tesla brand obviously has pretty bad cards.
