Drop in the number of patients in the hospital, contaminations go up

According to figures released by health authorities on Thursday, the number of hospitalized patients with a Covid-19 diagnosis continues to decline.

They were 21,287 this Thursday against 21,509 the day before.

1122 people have been admitted in the last 24 hours.

The critical care services welcomed 1,928 patients with Covid against 1,962 the day before.

Public Health France deplored the death of 100 patients in French hospitals on Thursday.

But the number of contaminations has been going up for several days.

China: Covid cases at their highest in two years

China reported 402 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, nearly double the previous day, when the highly contagious Omicron strain now affects a third of the country's provinces.

These contaminations remain disproportionate to the balance sheets in the rest of the world, but they are for China at their highest level since March 2020. The country, where the coronavirus was initially detected at the end of 2019, observes a zero Covid policy, which made it possible to quickly contain the epidemic, but comes with a high social and economic cost.

The majority of new cases Thursday were recorded in the province of Jilin (northeast), bordering North Korea, as well as in the port city of Qingdao (east), which overlooks the Yellow Sea.

Vaccination with Novavax started Thursday in Slovakia

Slovakia introduced the new Covid vaccine from Novavax on Thursday, which experts hope will appeal to skeptics because it is made using more conventional technology, the health ministry said.

The country of 5.4 million people has one of the lowest vaccination levels in the EU, with just 51% of Slovaks fully vaccinated.

"Vaccination with the new vaccine began Thursday in two hospitals, others will follow

," health ministry spokeswoman Zuzana Eliasova told AFP.

By Monday, Nuvaxovid should be available at 46 vaccination centers across the country, she said.
