More and more expensive petrol, here's how to save

Petrol and diesel at a step from 2.3 euros per liter in served. This was reported by Quotidiano Energia. (HANDLE)

Fuel prices are rising every day, and traveling by car has become very expensive.

At this rate, according to Codacons, the price at the pump is likely to reach 3 euros per liter between the end of March and the beginning of April.

A year ago, according to Mise data, the green one cost 1,566 euros / liter and the diesel 1,436 euros.

No relief even for those who install LPG or methane systems: LPG prices run less, but still rise (from 0.871 to 0.894 euros / liter), while the cost of car methane is still growing strongly and is positioned between 1.955 and 2.366 .

Undoubtedly, excise duties are heavy: those imposed for immediate collection applied to the quantity of energy consumed.

In other words: every liter of fuel is burdened with taxes imposed even many years ago, mostly to cope with extraordinary events.

And so, excise after excise duty, more than 50% of the price of fuel has been charged.

In fact, after taxes, the cost of Italian fuels is lower than the European average.

Never as in this moment, therefore, can I find some useful advice to combat consumption: saving fuel and making the most of the efficiency of modern cars.

1. Plan the route -

Changing the road or, worse, getting lost and then going back increases the mileage and pushes you to accelerate to make up for lost time.

Even if you have a navigator to prevent this from happening, it is useful to plan your route in time.

Furthermore, the engine consumes more when it is cold, and therefore it is useful to combine more stops and more errands on each trip, such as taking advantage of shopping when you go to pick up the children.

2. Avoid rush hours -

Low fuel consumption and traffic are polar opposites.

In addition to being stressful, queuing is the best way to unnecessarily consume fuel.

If you have the opportunity, you should avoid the most chaotic moments by anticipating or delaying getting around by car.

3. Carry out proper maintenance -

For maximum efficiency, the engine must breathe well, and always be in the best condition.

It is therefore important to respect the service schedules and choose the oil that corresponds to the required specifications.

In order to reduce fuel consumption, it is also important to check compliance with tire inflation pressures at least every two weeks.

4. Manage heat and cold in the passenger compartment -

In winter it is better never to be in the condition of having the windows fogged up, because the use of defrosters or, worse, the specific rapid function in the air conditioner affects the demand for electricity and in general the consumption.

Every time you turn on your car's air conditioning, the engine works harder, using more fuel.

The same observations are valid in summer, when it is necessary to avoid leaving the car in the sun with excessive temperatures when leaving.

5. Avoid Excess Weights -

Consumption is directly related to the mass that the engine must move.

Therefore it is essential that the car is as light as possible (to avoid tools, jerry cans and other junk left in the trunk) and in case you have to make expensive transport, it is better to move at low speed.

If you use roof bars and roof racks, avoid leaving them when not in use, because they create greater resistance to running which can increase consumption by up to 10%.

6. Drive in a relaxed way -

To save fuel, the pace must be limited in terms of speed (the best result is obtained around 80-90 km /) and without 'playing' with the accelerator. minimum the energy losses that occur every time you brake or accelerate, better pay attention to the road, to traffic, anticipating slowing down when possible at a red light.

7. Always use the correct gear -

To optimize fuel consumption it is not necessarily the highest gear, but the one that requires the least pressure on the accelerator to maintain the desired pace.

If the car is equipped with an instant fuel consumption indicator, it is easy to notice that moving from third to fourth at a lower speed worsens the situation.

8. Reduce speed on the freeway -

It is one of the simplest ways to save on fuel costs.

On the motorway, going down from the regulatory 130 km / h to an effective 115 km / h can reduce fuel consumption by 20-25%.

9. Refuel when and where it is convenient -

It may seem impossible, but finding yourself in need of refueling where petrol and diesel are more expensive is a frequent thing.

It is also not advisable to travel many kilometers to reach a low cost petrol station.

It is therefore better to plan refueling, also using one of the many Apps that indicate the price charged in the various distributors.

10. Using Eco Mode -

Electronics and Apps are a great help to save fuel.

Many cars are equipped with Eco mode which optimizes consumption, both by evaluating the driving style and by disconnecting energy-intensive systems.

And other apps, in this challenge to expensive gasoline, can help you decide to take a healthy walk instead of starting the engine.
