The chances of reaching the seventh consecutive Eurovision final are slim.

If Michael Ben David succeeds in reaching the final it will be 100% his success, if he is kicked already in the half it will really not be his fault.

In the world, meanwhile, there are disagreements about upgrading the Israeli song, but at least on the gambling sites the situation is slightly improving.

Already three times written by Walla!

Culture Sagi Ben-Nun interviewed Michael Ben-David, our representative for the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in Turin.

Three interviews I envy in writing that got to come across such an accessible interviewee.

An interviewee who manages to convey the joy of his life, to show everyone how he lives the dream, and does not let anything distract him from the path to conquering the biggest music stage in the universe and beyond.

Not to the slaughtering critics, not to the Eurovision fans who can be toxic, not to the non-amateurs who can be even more toxic as hard as it is imagined, not to the homophobes, nor to the gambling agencies we'll get to.

Yesterday at 12:00 it happened - the revamp, i.e. the "upgrade", the change of the song IM that represented us at the Eurovision Song Contest, was announced at a festive press conference and on digital platforms.

It's hard to upgrade something so bad, it's kind of like offering an upgrade to the Nokia 5120 in the age of smartphones.

I read interviews with Michael Ben-David, watch videos of him, and get mad - how unfortunate that he just got into the situation.

From papers instead of a song

Like his extroversion or not - Michael Ben David is an excellent performer.

He has a great voice and when he is on stage it is unbelievable that this man with the excesses of self-confidence has a sack of abuses in his past.

Ben-David says in interviews that the composers are good friends of his and that he loves the song, which is a wise move - he should now sell to all of Europe and Australia that it is the song that should win the competition, but we know the chances of a seventh consecutive Eurovision final are slim.

If he manages to reach the final it will be his 100% success, if he is kicked already in the half it really will not be his fault.

As a friend told me - this is how it is when sending from papers and not a song.

The new processing does not have much to consider, it is impossible to prepare an excellent stew when the ingredients are expired.

Michael Ben-David should come to Turin when he is already thinking about the day after the Eurovision Song Contest.

He should smile everywhere, dedicate himself to the Israeli and international media, reach the press center and spread love there just as Eden Elena did and some other Israeli representatives gave it up and failed, accept as many mentions as possible, and hope for the best.

Reaching the Eurovision final will be a great achievement, even if in the final it crashes in 23rd place.

The worst Eurovision of all time

What, after all, can make Israel's song stand out?

This year's Eurovision is expected to be particularly bad.

Yes, I know, almost every year you say "this year will be a really bad Eurovision" and "what are these songs".

Anyone who follows my columns knows that I grin at these regularities, and songs you get admired by pop singers are suddenly received with a crooked and toxic eye when it comes to Eurovision.

But this year is something else, 2022 is a genuine disgrace, a severe blow to a brand called Eurovision.

Country after country has chosen songs that move on the continuum between horrifying and heavenly, ballads that even Memorial Days do not agree to accept on the one hand, alongside songs that the festival people would laugh at.

Even the toughest Eurovision fans are having a hard time defending the competition this year, which after last year's qualitative Eurovision is moving at a dizzying pace for many years to come.

In previous years I would not even bother to analyze the chances of Michael Ben David to advance to the finals, they did not exist.

But in such a bad year, IM can still surprise us all.

The fact that this is one of the few rhythmic songs in the competition between the songs of lamentation and bereavement can also play in his favor.

Surprise everyone?

"There is no chance that Israel will not reach the final!"

Alicia Michelle, a popular American blogger who complimented the song in its first version also complimented the upgraded version: "This choreography works so well, I just can not see how it does not make it to the finals. It's the whole package", but alongside the compliments also something that bothered Michelle and repeated In the negative reviews: "There are not enough ethnic sounds, this is something that Israel is good at and it's a shame."

Despite the criticism, Alyssa stated emphatically: "It's going to go up!".

And what do the comments say about the official YouTube clip?

Here are some examples:

Mucrush: This year there are a lot of songs that are not appreciated enough, and this is one of them!

George K: I love the song and I will encourage Israel this year.

Chavem: As always, Israel drops a bomb, love from Switzerland.

Otis: Israel has shown that it knows how to innovate!

This is a brand new song and I'm here for it !!!

Kadima Michael will continue to shell !!!!

Ficus from Greece: I think the novelty saved the song.

Hopefully Israel will steal the promotion to the finals!

"They managed to make the song even worse"

On the Eurovision fans site wiwibloggs were a little more deadly in the comments, here are some examples:

* The truth is I hate this song and it's my last place.

The opening is amazing and you can imagine Michael Jackson singing it, and then it just gets horrible even though now I hate it less.

* It's definitely a lot better than it used to be, but it's not the novelty the song really needed.

The song is still not suitable for me for now, Michael is a charismatic performer, but it's just too exaggerated and difficult.

* Absolutely awful, it was bad before but it's even worse, and the flutes - what the hell?

They literally threw away everything they have and it's just awful.

* So synthetic, people wanted innovation for no reason.

Now it sounds like a remix and the song has lost its identity.

Every iconic part was destroyed by overproduction and it just sounded awful to me.

And what do the betting agencies say?

As of this writing, and that may change by the time you read them, the novelty has kicked Michael Ben-David out of the embarrassing 38th place, with only two countries below him, straight to the 33rd, well, shameful place as well.

Next week we will start reviewing Israel's competitors at Eurovision 2022 and see what the chances are of causing a surprise and starting to cook stews in the shape of a hat.

Apparently Eurovision 2023 will not reach Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, or Petah Tikva.

We wish Michael Ben-David great success, and that he will be able to enjoy the trip to Turin as much as possible.

Michael Ben-David will compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest on Thursday 12 May.

The first semi-final will be held on May 10 and the final on May 14.

All broadcasts will begin at 10pm and will be broadcast live here 11. We are at Walla!

Culture will encourage Michael and the Israeli delegation in live updates from Turin, Italy.
