The number of air trips is not decreasing, it is constantly increasing – more and more people are flying and more and more airports are being built.
Whether it's a business trip or a flight on vacation, for long distances, the plane is still best if you want to reach your destination quickly.
But because the exhaust gases from the planes heat up the climate, scientists are researching the green plane.
One idea for the future of flying is propeller-driven electric aircraft.
Fueled with green electricity, such flights would then be climate-neutral.
The disadvantage: Such developments cannot fly particularly far, the batteries are not yet sufficient for long distances.
Another solution to save CO2 now: change and optimize the steering of conventional aircraft in the air.
Because how an airplane flies – at what altitude, with how many or few detours – has an impact on the climate balance.
In this episode of "Klimabericht", our podcast on the climate crisis, we look at how green aviation can work and ask ourselves: Will flying soon be modern again?
Our guests this time are Cord Rossow and Dirk Kügler from the German Aerospace Center.
