The electric car manufacturer Tesla has increased the prices for its Model 3 sharply overnight – this also has consequences for the subsidy premiums.

Austin – The extreme prices for petrol and diesel make many owners of vehicles with combustion engines ponder: Is it perhaps worth switching to an electric car after all?

Even one or the other electric skeptic might be prompted to rethink the fuel price explosion.

However, electric cars are of course not free: Tesla has now turned the price screw on the Model 3 - with consequences for the lavish subsidy premiums, as reported by 24auto.de.

As the Tesla website reveals, the rear-wheel drive base version of the Model 3 now costs 49,990 euros.

Before April 1, 2022, it was significantly less - namely 42,900 euros, as "teslamag.de" reports.

That means: The prices have been raised by a whopping 7,000 euros.

Tesla is raising prices: The basic model 3 now costs 7,000 euros more – this also has an effect on the environmental bonus.

Tesla increases prices: Other manufacturers could possibly follow suit

Such price increases are not entirely surprising – other manufacturers may also be turning the price screw in the near future.

One of the reasons for this is the Ukraine war, which has caused prices for important raw materials to skyrocket.

And not only the prices for the vehicles are increasing at Tesla - recently the electric car manufacturer also raised the prices at the charging stations.

But for Tesla buyers it will be even more expensive: Because the Model 3 no longer has a net list price of less than 40,000 euros after the price increase, customers will no longer get the maximum state environmental bonus of 6,000 euros.

Instead, the Model 3 now falls into the “higher” category for the list price below 65,000 euros – and there is only a 5,000 euro subsidy for that.

In addition, in this subsidy category there is only a bonus of 2,500 euros instead of 3,000 euros from the manufacturer himself.

It remains to be seen whether Tesla boss Elon Musk (50) – who is currently considering setting up his own social network – will notice the price increases due to falling customer numbers.

Elon Musk has a problem in Germany anyway: many fleet operators are angry because of the poor support provided by Tesla - the fleet association spoke in a statement of a "disaster".

Price increases are unlikely to improve the mood of already angry fleet customers.
