Auto incentives, green light: 2 billion in three years

According to what has been learned, Prime Minister Mario Draghi signed the Dpcm which, at the proposal of Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, finances incentives for the purchase of electric, hybrid and low-emission cars and motorbikes. (HANDLE)


After a long wait, the government decree has arrived that gives the green light to incentives for the purchase of electric cars and motorcycles, but also hybrids and low emissions.

A breath of fresh air for a sector that is also weighing on the semiconductor crisis that forces companies to continue production stops.

The provision, signed by Prime Minister Mario Draghi, will enter into force the day after its publication in the Official Gazette.

It is a structural measure which, on the proposal of the Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti, allocates 650 million per year for 2022, 2023 and 2024. In all, almost 2 billion in three years.

These are resources that are part of the Automotive Fund which has a total financial endowment of 8.7 billion until 2030 to support the supply chain in the transition to electricity.

"Incentives are a concrete and long-awaited response to a sector that is going through profound suffering. The multi-year measure allows companies to do industrial planning towards development. They are not decisive, but they are an emergency tool to go through a difficult period" comments Giorgetti .

"It will give oxygen to the sector", underlines Deputy Minister Gilberto Pichetto.

For the purchase of electric cars, with a price of up to 35 thousand euros plus VAT, a contribution of 3,000 euros can be requested, to which a further 2,000 euros can be added if an approved car in a class lower than 5 euros is scrapped at the same time. This category of eco-bonus is financed with 220 million in 2022, 230 million in 2023 and 245 million in 2024. For the purchase of plug-in hybrid vehicles,

This category of eco-bonus is financed with 170 million in 2022, 150 million in 2023 and 120 million in 2024. The incentives for the purchase of electric, hybrid, plug-in and endothermic vehicles are only granted to individuals.

A small percentage of the funds is reserved for car sharing companies to buy electric, hybrid, plug-in vehicles.

Contributions to small and medium-sized enterprises are envisaged but only for the purchase of new electric commercial vehicles with the simultaneous scrapping of an approved vehicle in a class lower than Euro 4.
