Time to say goodbye - and upgrade:

After a little over 4 years, Samsung has officially announced that it will stop supporting software updates for its flagship devices for 2018 - the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.

The last update the two received was fixing security issues last March.

As promised, Samsung has released updates to the operating system since its launch in February 2018 - a significantly longer period compared to other manufacturers, and the latest version received by the two devices is Android 10. Now, the company has finally stopped supporting them - including security updates.

However, Samsung will continue to release updates to the Galaxy Note 9, which was launched later that year.

Samsung has also moved the Galaxy S10 series launched in 2019 to the quarterly updates category.

That is, the phone will now receive a single update every quarter, or every three months - until the end of support for that period next year.

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus garnered much praise in the technology press and were considered the best smartphones of their time.

However, Samsung described sales at the end of the first as "slow", when after two quarters it reached a low of 19.2 million units - the lowest figure since the Galaxy S5.
