No CEO of the big tech companies invests as much in their security as Mark Zuckerberg. With many millions, the boss should be protected from unpleasant surprises and attacks.

When it comes to protecting their bosses from possible attacks, there is hardly a price too high for large companies in the IT industry.

According to a report by the Bloomberg news agency, Amazon paid a whopping $1.6 million to protect Jeff Bezos in 2021.

For the security of Sundar Pichai, head of Google and its parent company Alphabet, 4.3 million dollars were spent.

Apple, in turn, says it paid CEO Tim Cook a slightly smaller sum of $630,630 to protect his security in 2021.

For the protection of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, however, his meta group raised a total of $ 15,195,103 in 2021.

The number quoted by Bloomberg comes from the company's current SEC filing, a kind of annual statement by the group for the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

In addition, the Meta CEO received a "pre-tax grant of ten million dollars for the safety of him and his family".

Additionally, $1,627,957 was included in the CEO's security package for "personal use of private jets."

All together makes $26,823,060.

A jet was needed

After all, Zuckerberg's airfare has fallen by more than $1 million since 2019.

In the corona crisis, he apparently got around less than usual. He still had his own jet.

According to the document, Zuckerberg has been traveling privately and professionally on an aircraft since March 2022 that "is indirectly and wholly owned by Mr. Zuckerberg and is operated by an independent charter company."

Meta justifies the substantial expenditure for Mark Zuckerberg's protection by saying that he is synonymous with the company and therefore "the negative sentiment towards our company is directly associated with Mr. Zuckerberg and is often transferred to him".

»Appropriate and necessary«

The company does not reveal the details of the expenses, only stating that they are intended to cover the costs of the company boss's personal security at his "residences and personal travels".

This also includes the "costs for security personnel to protect him and the procurement, installation and maintenance of certain security measures for his residences".

Not quite as expensive as Zuckerberg for Meta is the security of co-CEO Sheryl Sandberg.

But almost nine million dollars were also billed for their protection in 2021, plus a good two million dollars for private flights.

Due to the importance of Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg for Meta, the security measures for the bosses served the "good of the company," the mandatory announcement continues.

And, "We believe the scope and cost of these security programs are reasonable and necessary."
