Review: Realme 9 Pro Plus - Sparkling Smartphone | Israel today

2022-04-18T11:25:14.974Z

The realme 9 Pro Plus tries to wink at users thanks to a quality screen with Super AMOLED technology, a powerful battery and fast charging, when it comes at a relatively reasonable price

One can easily get confused by the variety of models that realme has launched in the country, but at least as of this writing, its leading smartphone is the 9 Pro Plus.

This is a device sold under a relatively favorable price tag for the NIS 1,500 category, which tries to offer as much good hardware as possible for less money.

Design: realme 9 Pro Plus - shiny look

realme has made an effort to make its smartphone shiny.

The version I got comes in green-black, when in different angles of light, you can see how the back shimmers.

It should still be remembered that this is a device that comes from a plastic body, so you should not expect a luxurious feeling.

The smartphone itself does not weigh too much and is even relatively light - 192 grams with a thickness of 8 mm.

It fits well in the pants pocket or in the hand.

Water protection is not here.

What's more, there is Gorilla Glass 5 glass here that provides a certain level of durability.

Screen: realme 9 Pro Plus - Super AMOLED screen

One of the good news we have been seeing for some time, is the combination of quality screens in smartphones at low-medium price levels.

The 9 Pro Plus comes with a very respectable 6.4-inch screen with the successful Super AMOLED technology, along with a resolution of 2400 by 1080 pixels (Full HD Plus) and a frame rate of 90 Hz.

This is a successful display with rich colors and good sharpness, especially looking at the price of the device.

The backlight stands at 600 rivets and while not as high as on more expensive devices, I do not remember having any viewing problems with it.

Interface: realme 9 Pro Plus - version 3.0 interface

realme offers Android 12 on which the realme UI 3.0 interface is mounted.

This is all in a friendly interface, which offers, among other things, color matching of some of the menus to those of the wallpaper in the background.

There is also a Can Plus AOD version of One Plus called here "Precision Eyeshadow", this turns your wallpaper into a canvas illustration, when it is displayed on the Always On screen that the device displays in standby mode.

For some reason the Always On display did not work for me.

There is also a side menu, which turns favorite apps into floating windows for parallel work.

What bothered me about the interface was that even though I chose an app drawer, the system still spilled all the apps on both the home page and the drawer and created a mess.

It's not clear to me why realme continues with this thing, which also existed in UI 2.0.

There is also call recording here, but no WiFi calling, at least not on the Partner network I tested the smartphone on.

Also, the device did not work for me with the Android Auto system in the car (Sony system).

Hardware: realme 9 Pro Plus

- works almost smoothly

I will start with something that really drove me crazy on this smartphone, but it should also be resolved in a version update.

For some reason, a software malfunction in WiFi prevents the device from automatically connecting to WiFi networks, which requires a manual connection, when in most cases, it also sends to some strange site and then has to connect / disconnect, etc.

As I mentioned, this bug should be fixed, but you should check in the store that it has indeed been fixed before purchasing this smartphone.

The 9 Pro Plus is a device that most of the time responded well, when it sometimes suffered from stuttering, which means, do not expect it to be super fast.

The processor is MediaTek's Dimensity 920 5G that comes with 8GB of working memory (RAM) and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage (this is not the fastest version and there is no expansion capability here either).

This device also has support for 5th generation cellular networks, which is always nice.

Overall, for a smartphone at this price level, the performance is good.

Realme's smartphone also features a fingerprint sensor located below the screen (optical), it responded well, the speakers here are stereos and provide a relatively loud and not bad sound.

Camera: realme 9 Pro Plus - basic photo quality

The camera comes with a triangular photo array: 50 megapixel sensor with auto focus, optical image stabilizer and f / 1.8 aperture key, 8 megapixel sensor (119 degrees) with f / 2.2 and 2 megapixel sensor Pixel macro f / 2.4.

The selfie camera comes with a 16 megapixel f / 2.4 sensor.

In general, this camera shows good pictures but no more than that, it tends to be slightly pale colors and lacks richness.

In wide photography, one can feel a significant decrease in sharpness, with the most noticeable impact being at the edges.

In night shots, we get a well-lit image, but with over-processing and pale colors.

The selfie camera does the job with difficulty.

Battery: realme 9 Pro Plus - a successful battery with fast charging

realme has integrated a battery with a capacity of 4500 mAh here.

This is a respectable battery capacity that has become almost standard nowadays.

This managed to provide me with work time from 07:30 in the morning to 23:30 at night and I still had 35% energy left (screen time of 3:45 minutes).

In terms of fast charging, the kit comes with a 60 watt charger, which within 15 minutes managed to charge 49% energy and within 30 minutes 84% energy.

Very respectable.

There is no wireless charging here.

Price: NIS 1,500, including Buds Q2 headphones as a gift (in the Bug network)

Bottom line

, the realme 9 Pro Plus is a smartphone that looks good, comes with a successful screen and a powerful battery.

On the other hand, the bug with the WiFi drove me crazy and it was worthwhile for realme to invest a little more in the camera.
