With the new 7 Series and the i7, BMW shows self-confidence - in relation to the competition and critics.

Because the massive design will polarize again.

Here are the photos.

Munich – You've done it again: No matter how much criticism of BMW's new design line can flood the web, the designers are following their course.

Now also with their new flagship, the 7 series and its electric counterpart, the i7.

After camouflaged prototypes had already provided the first indications of design and technology, the luxury sedan can now be viewed in all its glory.

And again, a huge kidney dominates the front, as the photo gallery on 24auto.de shows.

Even if massive criticism of the front design is now boiling up again: the sales success of the new line proves the BMW designers and their boss Adrian van Hooydonk right.

Because the similarly controversial 4 series, including its electric counterpart i4, is selling extremely well.

The basic concept of the new 7 Series also corresponds to that of the sports coupé: a purely electric version with the initials i supplements the classic series.

Here, BMW follows a completely different strategy than Mercedes, where there is a conventional S-Class on the one hand and pure electric vehicles on the other with the EQS and the EQS SUV.

A matter of getting used to: the two-piece headlights of the 7-series.

Similar to the X7 after the extensive facelift, the lighting units are divided in the front - in narrow LED slots for daytime running lights and indicators at the top and matrix headlights for low and high beam below.

In addition, the design is pleasing.

In addition, BMW is the pioneer in the luxury segment: in the future, the 7 Series will only be available in one body version, namely in long.

Compared to the previous stretched version, the wheelbase has grown by another five millimeters to 3.22 meters.

So now all 7 Series reach an impressive total length of 5.39 meters.

Because China and the USA, where the previous shorter versions were insignificant, have long since taken the lead in development.

Europe only plays a secondary role.

The 19 to 22-inch wheels match the powerful appearance.

On the inside, all new 7-series models, like the new 2-series Active Tourer, show the high-tech ambience of the Stromer iX and i4 models.

A slightly curved, huge screen extends from the driver's seat to the center console.

Like the apps on an iPhone, the tiles on the touchscreen can be moved at will, and state-of-the-art 5G communication, for example to provide traffic jam data, is a matter of honour.

Surfaces, for example on the armrest of the center console and under the dashboard, quickly heat up the interior and increase (compared to conventional heating) the energy efficiency of the electric i7.

In the rear, where the rich and powerful are, there is pure luxury.

With their highly adjustable backrests, the seats offer a comfortable reclining position from which passengers can watch films and series streamed via 5G on 32-inch screens.

A panoramic glass roof with LED effects spans the interior.

The new 7-series BMW will start in November of this year.

Initially, only the electric BMW i7 xDrive60 with 400 kW/544 hp and 745 Nm is available in Europe.

A Stark-Stromer xDrive70 with 485 kW/660 hp and 1000 Nm torque (range 590 kilometers) will follow at the end of 2023.

A little earlier there is a 300 hp diesel, which marks the entry with a price of just under 100,000 euros, and the plug-in hybrid.

The top model here is the BMW M 760e xDrive, which with 571 hp and 800 Nm is almost at the level of the previous V12 top model and should cover at least 80 kilometers purely electrically.
