In the autumn of 2020, the BMW Group had amazed by launching the 'Power of Choice' initiative, i.e. the possibility for customers to opt for the engine of their liking and in tune with their needs, ranging from conventional ICE petrol and diesel engines and passing through the Mild and Plug-in electrification, up to the 100% electric models, furthermore characterized by the name 'i' and a dedicated design.

Bmw 7 Series, electric or diesel equipment and comfort always at the top

Now, with the debut of the seventh generation of the 7 Series flagship, BMW is moving forward and - with the intention of not discriminating between BEV users and ICE users - is now making available the 100% electric version i7 xDrive 60 which embodies luxury and modernity in that which is defined as "a vision of premium mobility attentive to environmental challenges".

But it does, and this is the most interesting aspect, without differentiating the i7 from the other ICE versions of the flagship, including the Mhev diesel, which will arrive in the spring of 2023.

As pointed out in the reveal event, the new 7 Series opens up revolutionary paths to driving pleasure, thanks to unsurpassed comfort over long distances and a high-level digital experience.

The new 7 Series will be offered worldwide exclusively in a long wheelbase variant that maximizes spaciousness in the rear passenger area.

In this part of the 7 Series cabin, the use of new and particularly high-quality materials, the innovative entertainment system and the updated Executive Lounge option combine to provide - when the car is in the driver's seat - an unbeatable level of well-being in an exclusive environment.

The design of the front of the new 7 Series presents the typical characteristics of the brand, but keeps clear, like the rest of the bodywork, the distinction between the new luxury model and the other cars in the BMW range.

A 'top brand' positioning that is reinforced by unique equipment features, such as the Theater Screen with integrated Amazon Fire TV, the multisensory experience of the BMW iDrive with the Curved Display, but also with solutions such as the Maneuvre Assistant for parking and autonomous driving without a driver on board that make the model a symbol of the innovative strength of the BMW Group.

The BMW i7, the first variant to arrive in dealerships with a price list starting at 146,000 euros, differs in the details in the characteristic 'i Blue' color while the design elements included in the optional M Sport package recall the iconic dynamism of the brand.

The M Sport Pro package is also available for this 100% electric variant. In turn, the BMW M models based on the new 7 Series (there should also be one derived from the i7) and scheduled for 2023, will have a strong impact both visually and dynamically. , with the option of adding an M Performance package as an option.

At launch next November, the BMW 7 Series will therefore initially be offered as a 100% electric model, in the i7 xDrive 60 set-up with 544 Hp and 745 Nm of maximum torque.

This version - which uses a common platform with the 7 Series Mhev and Phev - is powered by two fifth-generation e-Drive engines with eESM (electrically excited synchronous motor) technology that avoids the use of rare earths.

 The energy for the i7 xDrive 60, which according to the technical data provided by BMW sprints from 0 to 100 in 4.7 seconds and touches 240 per hour, comes from a 101.7 kWh lithium-ion battery that it allows a range of up to 625 kilometers and can be recharged up to 80% in 34 minutes using 195 kW rapid columns.

Starting from spring 2023 the i7 xDrive 60 will be joined by the 740d xDrive version which is equipped with a modern 6-cylinder diesel engine that develops 300 hp with a combined consumption in the WLTP cycle of 6.9 - 5.9 liters per 100 km and CO2 emissions of 182 - 157 g / km (NEDC cycle).

Also at the beginning of next year, the range will expand with plug-in hybrid variants which, like the i7, use fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology.

This is the 750e xDrive with 6-cylinder petrol engine and plug-in hybrid system with a total power of 490 hp and a maximum torque of 700 Nm. This variant is credited with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds, a combined electric combined range (WLTP) of 85-95 km and a combined fuel consumption (WLTP) of between 1.0 - 1.2 liters / 100 km.

It will be accompanied by the 571 hp M760e xDrive plug-in hybrid with combined cycle consumption (WLTP) of 1.1 - 1.2 liters / 100 km;

CO2 emissions in the combined cycle: 25 - 28 g / km (WLTP).

Further versions of the all-electric i7 will be introduced at a later stage including the sporty i7 M70 xDrive with an overall output of 660hp.
