Le Figaro

takes stock this Saturday, April 23 on the latest information related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The decline continues

The decline in the Covid-19 epidemic observed for ten days continued on Saturday, but the number of hospitalized patients remained stable, in particular in critical care, according to daily figures published by Public Health France.

The ebb is confirmed: with 80,571 positive cases recorded in 24 hours, the average for the last seven days stands at just over 80,000 daily contaminations, while it stagnated above 130,000 at the start of April.

Amplified by the Easter Monday holiday, the decline is nonetheless proven for the eleventh consecutive day.

59 deaths in hospital in 24 hours

The same is not true in the hospital, where there are still 24,840 infected patients, including 1,636 in critical care, almost as many as at the start of last week.

The macabre count of the Covid has also increased by 59 deaths in hospital in 24 hours, bringing the total to 145,020 in France since the start of the pandemic, more than two years ago.

In China,

the censorship of a video on the confinement in Shanghai infuriates Chinese Internet users

A viral video which presents the repercussions of the confinement of Shanghai on its inhabitants was deleted from the Chinese internet by the censors, arousing the incomprehension and even the anger of Internet users on Saturday.

China's economic capital, populated by 25 million people, is facing its worst outbreak of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

Almost all Shanghainese have been confined to their homes since early April.

Many residents have difficulty getting supplies of fresh produce and seeing a doctor.

Titled “

Siyue zhi sheng

” (“

Voices of April

”), the six-minute video is a long sequence shot of Shanghai filmed from the air.

The video begins with the voices of politicians declaring, at the start of the outbreak in March, that a short preventive lockdown is undesirable, due to its economic repercussions.

This initial hesitation led to the explosion in the number of positive cases, which finally triggered the current confinement which is expected to last for many weeks.

The video presents the repercussions with about twenty sound clips: confined inhabitants who are unable to obtain food, medicine or go to the hospital;

a man prevented from returning to his confined neighborhood;

or a woman describing the chaos in quarantine centres.

The video was massively shared Friday evening on the WeChat social network.

But the censors managed to erase all traces of it in a few hours.
