After a week of postponements and delays it happens:

The Israeli astronaut and businessman Eitan Steve, along with members of the AX-1 mission team are expected to land tonight (Monday) on Earth off the coast of Florida, at 20:00 (Israel time).

The exciting landing moment is preceded by several stages, when the process of disconnection from the International Space Station began at 03:55 (Israel time).

Steva has been in space since April 8, and in total the Israeli astronaut has completed 17 days in space, 16 of them at the space station.

Upon landing, the capsule (dragon spacecraft) is supposed to land in the sea using parachutes.

The splashdown will take place at a speed of about 30 km / h. Upon landing, it is customary for speedboats to arrive at the landing site, check the condition of the spacecraft and make sure that the capsule and crew are in good condition.

Each Dragon-type spacecraft has a number of optional landing sites deployed along the shores of Florida in the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

Weather conditions such as wave height, wind speed and drift, are a significant factor in ensuring a safe landing.

Due to the fact that all the landing sites had a forecast of strong winds and waves, the many factors preferred to postpone the start of the return procedure.

Steva was launched as part of the first private space mission in history, by Axium (Ax-1) featuring Michael Lopez-Allegria, former NASA astronaut and vice president, Larry Connor, American entrepreneur and activist investor in non-profit organizations and Mark Pati, investor and Canadian philanthropist Lopez-Allegria, who has flown into space four times in 20 years, and broken many NASA records, became the first person to command a fully civilian and commercial manned space flight.

Conor became the first private mission pilot in the history of spaceflight, and Canada's 11th astronaut.

Steve's mission, in its Hebrew name 'Rakia', lasted more than a week, during which dozens of experiments were conducted by Israeli scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs.

These experiments reflect a wide range of areas, and are expected to lead to technological, scientific and medical breakthroughs that will affect humanity on Earth - and beyond.

Alongside the experiments, Steve staged educational activities for children and youth in Israel from space.
