The Three-pointed Star shuffles the cards on the table again and using a technology derived directly from Formula 1, brings to the latest generation of the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic the unprecedented solution of the 'electrified turbo', which together with the Mild system Hybrid 48 Volt revitalizes (if ever it were needed) the solution of the ICE petrol engines.

Thus, in full compliance with the customer's wishes, the AMG division dedicated to high-performance models, while working on various innovations with more thrust or even 100% battery-powered electrification, sets new benchmarks in terms of traditional propulsion solutions.

Sedan or wagon, Mercedes-AMG C 43 are now even more spirited

After making its debut in the Mercedes-AMG SL 43, the 2.0-liter AMG four-cylinder engine - the world's first production engine with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger - is now also coming to the C-Class as a sedan and wagon variant.

This new supercharging technology guarantees particularly fast response times across the entire rev range and ensures an even sportier drive.

The exhaust gas turbocharger is powered by the 48 Volt on-board electrical system, which also supplies power to the belt driven alternator-starter (RSG).

In the specific case of Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic, the engine delivers 408 Hp (therefore a specific power exceeding 200 Hp / liter) and can count on the additional boost of 14 Hp ensured by the RSG - the heart of the Mild Hybrid system - which can be used temporarily. .

The maximum torque reaches 500 Nm.

Among the other refinements present in the two new 'hot' variants of the C-Class are the rear steering wheels as standard, the permanent all-wheel drive 4Matic Performance AMG with torque distribution in favor of the rear wheels, the 9G Speedshift MCT AMG gearbox and the AMG Ride Control suspension with active suspension.

"The C-Class has always been an absolute success model for Mercedes-AMG - emphasized Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes AMG GmbH - and now with the innovative technology of the electric exhaust gas turbocharger, we have again made a lot of performance. The latest generation is more fascinating. The new turbocharging and the 48 Volt on-board power supply not only contribute to the excellent driving dynamics of the C 43 4Matic, but also increase its efficiency. In this way we demonstrate its high potential of electrified internal combustion engines. The standard all-wheel drive, the active rear axle steering and the rapid response of the gearbox reinforce the driving performance typical of the AMG brand. "

The M139 engine in the new Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic is the first in the world to be supercharged by an electric exhaust gas turbocharger.

The innovative system is a direct derivation of the technology that the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 team has been using successfully for many years.

The new form of supercharging ensures particularly fast response times over the entire engine speed range, for the benefit of an even sportier driving sensation and greater efficiency.

The electric exhaust gas turbocharger integrates directly on its shaft - between the turbine wheel on the exhaust side and the compressor wheel on the intake side of the outside air - a slim electric motor approximately 4 centimeters thick.

The latter, electronically controlled, directly drives the shaft of the exhaust gas turbocharger and therefore is able to accelerate the compressor wheel (up to 175,000 rpm) before the exhaust gas flow takes over the function of drive.

This expedient significantly improves the response time starting from the number of revolutions at idle and on all revs.

The internal combustion engine reacts even more promptly to the accelerator pedal controls, making the overall driving feel much more dynamic.

In addition, the higher torque at low revs translates into greater acceleration from a standstill.

Another standout feature is the two-stage petrol injection.

In the first stage, the particularly fast and precise piezoelectric injectors introduce the fuel into the combustion chambers at a pressure of 200 bar.

In the second, injection into the intake manifold is added by means of electromagnetic valves, so as to obtain the high specific power of the engine.

Thanks to this engine, the C 43 4MATIC Sedan accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.6 seconds, which becomes 4.7 for the C 43 Wagon with a top speed electronically limited to 250 km / h for both models.

By adding the AMG Driver's Package the top speed rises for both cars to 265 km / h.
