The first elements of the investigation suggest femicide followed by suicide after the death of a couple in their forties, parents of eight children, found dead in Épinal (Vosges) on Tuesday.
The man allegedly killed his wife with a knife before committing suicide with the same weapon, indicates the public prosecutor Frédéric Nahon quoted by France 3.
On the evening of the murder, the husband allegedly accused his wife of being unfaithful, before grabbing a knife.
While his wife took refuge in the bathroom, the man allegedly forced the door open and stabbed her several times, including a fatal one to the base of the neck.
He then allegedly turned the gun on himself and struck himself in the heart, which killed him.
These are three of the children who allegedly discovered the body.
The couple had eight children, four boys and four girls, aged 8 to 24.
At least three were present at the time of the tragedy.
