The May Day demonstration ended in Nîmes on Sunday afternoon when two firefighters were physically attacked by the person they were helping.
The man, in a state of intoxication, tried to strangle one of the two firefighters after having fallen, reports France Bleu.
"Keeping their calm and composure, all the responders continued the rescue mission while calling on the police," the firefighters said in a press release.
The suspect, a 32-year-old man, was taken into custody after medical examination.
The Gard firefighters have just lodged a complaint in Nîmes.
