"No dead man returned, in his heart he always remained": the songs written by the soldiers who were killed

On the occasion of Remembrance Day, we asked three bereaved families to send songs and letters written by their sons before they fell - and thus to be exposed to words and songs that had never been heard.

Here are the letters and songs of the late Eyal Cohen, the late Yaniv Visser and the late Shachar Dover

The late Shahar Dover

Shahar Dover was born in 1994 in Kibbutz Ginegar.

Son of Orly and Boris and younger brother to Guy.

In first grade he discovered the world of sports and began studying in a professional swimming class.

From the first moment he demonstrated high abilities.

His friends said he was the glue of the bunch, full of joy of life and a man of infinite patience.

In 2013, he enlisted in the army and joined a paratrooper platoon. He was killed on July 23, 2014 in a battle in the Gaza Strip during Operation Eitan. Shahar was killed along with his commander, Lt.

Before entering the battle in Gaza, Shahar wrote a letter (attached below) according to which a poem was also written in his memory (attached below).

In his last and chilling letter, Shahar wrote: "I miss my family. I love you, family, sorry for the difficult moments you endured me and hope you will remember me as I am. I have only one thing to ask for and that is to remember me."

A song written by Benzi Bruffman in memory of Shahar:

Who will make me laugh again?

Who will comfort when sad?

You always knew what to say

but the words were gone forever

Who will order the sunset

and place it on the mountain

Who will wipe away the tear

and make sure I laugh here tomorrow

Now dawn rises

above the goodness of my heart

God, how much does it cost?

Lose my brother's face

So if you hear

send a farewell letter

Thank you our hero

for a single pride

So if you sink

and with you also the sunrise

Thank you our hero

Dawn, dawn, sorry

2. The late Yaniv Visser

Yaniv Visser was born in Givatayim in 1976, to a family of three children.

He was an apprentice and later also an instructor at the Borochov branch of the working and learning youth.

From a young age he wrote songs and his relatives testified that he was a gentle-minded boy who always smiled.

As his date of enlistment in the IDF approached, he asked to enlist in the paratroopers - and so it happened. On January 22, 1995, when I secured the Beit Lid junction, an attack took place in which 21 soldiers and one civilian were killed. Was in his death. Here are three songs written by Yaniv - "A soldier was killed, did not die", "Peace spread", "In a small bottle of perfume".

"Soldier killed, not killed" / Yaniv Visser

The world is familiar

but war is such a cruel thing.

No dead

soldier returned in the war killed, not killed.

In our hearts he always stayed

but close or sold

every day in the soldier he remembered

Peace spread

Three hundred dollars in a tin box Peace conference

In a small bottle of perfume

I want you in a small bottle of perfume to

smear you on the neck and a little behind the ear to

smell you all day

to feel the fragrance from morning to evening

in a small bottle of perfume

a little behind the ear with a

sweet and pleasant sweet pungent

scent

Eyal Cohen (Photo: Courtesy of the family)

The late Eyal Cohen

Eyal Cohen, the eldest son of Yehudit and Moshe HaCohen, was born in 1950 in Neve Ephraim.

He was drafted into the IDF in April 1979 and volunteered for the paratroopers. He experienced many crises during his service, but when he adapted to the army - he began to advance in the track. In 1982 he fell during his military

service

.

And they have no rest

even if I had another heart I would then cry

spots of color seem to me like

clouds that can not be touched can not be used

as far as they are so close to one lone person

who sits every morning in a small cafe and paints them in his imagination

then erased - and goes

late When the dawn is still locked

I pray in memory of the day to come, standing and praying the

card is waiting and the feather - a white swan neck that stretches like a bridge of silence

from the beach of time to the beach

of shine A brilliant day served to us for free No money

And all the marching people come out as if from a song
