Here 11 at 10:45 p.m., Roots in the Air

A documentary about childhood in the shadow of the war.

The film tells the story of children who grew up in Air Force bases in the 1960s and 1970s, in civilian housing surrounded by a bustling military base where their fathers served.

The film's protagonists describe the dissonant experience of their childhood: on the one hand, a childhood protected by a fence and secured by soldiers, which gave them an infinite sense of freedom and security, but on the other, a girl exposed to a militaristic world, laden with dramatic and tragic events. .

The film was directed by Yoram Ivri, the son of former Air Force commander David Ivri, who embarks on a journey to the depths of bereavement following a diary written by his brother, Gil, before he was found dead in a training accident in his military service.

Alongside the film's protagonists, who describe their childhoods as members of the Air Force family, the film incorporates rare archival footage from the 1960s and 1970s, reflecting the complex childhood of the families who lived in Air Force bases.

73 soldiers perished in a disaster that shocked the country 25 years ago.

But it turns out that this number was not final at all.

Tuesday, February 4, 1997, The war in Lebanon is in full swing.

Two Yasur helicopters, full of soldiers returning from vacation on their way to Lebanon, collide a few minutes after takeoff.

73 soldiers were killed in what was described as the greatest disaster in IDF history. One of the first to arrive was Reddy Pils, a member of Kibbutz Gaash. The horrific sights and smells of that night burned into his mind, continuing to accompany him in constant nightmares and inability to re-integrate into life.

Redi did not know Tal Harari, his age, who grew up in Herzliya, a 5-minute drive from Gaash.

Tal was a young and motivated officer who commanded the IDF identification center when the soldiers' body bags arrived from the disaster.

The void also left the experience a deep and bleeding burn.

Unlike Reddy, he managed to continue to function in the first years after the event, even getting married and having two children, but the nightmares struck him again.

After 19 years of using alcohol and psychiatric drugs - his heart collapsed.

In the years since the disaster, Tal Vardi's families, each in their own way, tried to get the Ministry of Defense's recognition of the post-trauma that occurred on the night of the disaster, but from the Ministry of Defense's point of view, Tal Vardi was just two dropped out of the normative system.

After years of struggle, and just before the parties arrive at trial, the parents have been notified that they will eventually recognize the boys as the 74th victims of the disaster.

It's a heartbreaking story about two guys whose lives were turned upside down until they found their deaths, and about a stubborn struggle of parents who have lost the most precious to them of all, in the face of a system that prefers to deny the picture of reality.
