"Six months in space!"

After almost half a year on the International Space Station ISS, the team with the German Matthias Maurer made a precision landing.

"We see the deployment of the four main parachutes."

The first hurdle, deploying the main parachutes, went smoothly and drew applause from NASA staff at the Johnson Space Center.

Almost 24 hours after undocking from the International Space Station, the so-called splashdown took place.

The water landing off the Florida coast went according to plan to the minute.

Nasa comment

»The crew has splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico.

Oh wow, that´sa great view, not thermal this time, beautiful colors.«

The capsule with the astronauts - the crew of three Nasa colleagues and the German Esa astronaut Maurer - was brought on board a ship.

The US space agency showed the entire maneuver in the live stream.

»Pretty cool view there of the heat shield, now that it has been lifted.«

The salvage team finally got the four astronauts out of the capsule with stretchers.

After the 177-day mission in weightlessness, the astronauts' muscles and sense of balance are weakened.

But the crew was satisfied with their precision landing.

Nasa comment

»We have one more crew member inside the Dragon Crew, that´s European Space Agency astronaut Matthias Maurer.«

52-year-old Matthias Maurer spent most of his time on the ISS doing scientific experiments.

He was the twelfth German in space.

After his return, he is to get used to life on earth again on the grounds of the German Aerospace Center in Cologne.
