Adam Levin and Maron 5 came to have fun, the emotion was actually provided by the Israeli surprise

Maroon 5 presented a fun pop performance in Hayarkon Park, with some pleasant moments of nostalgia for those who have been following the band since it was formed 20 years ago.

But while it seems that the band only "marks V" for another target for the occupation, it was the Israeli singer who joined the band for a duet that made the evening special

There is something exciting about seeing artwork live, unfiltered.

There are cultural icons that can be seen a thousand times in photos, but when you get within touching distance of them, they turn out to be breathtaking.

Picasso's Guernica can be found in a brief search on Wikipedia, but anyone who has visited the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and seen the work in its entirety is familiar with the “wow effect” that accompanies the initial encounter with it.

The same is true of Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting The Last Supper, which is hidden in the dining room of the Church of Santa Maria della Gracia in Milan.

Adam Levin's torso seems to be the closest thing the 21st century has positioned as such an artistic masterpiece.

Last night in the Yarkon Park, dozens of girls screamed at a steady pace: "Take off your shirt" to the lead singer from Maron 5. I doubt he heard them, but he is long enough on stage to know what they want even without words.

In the last song in the encore, "Sugar," Levin stripped off the top and revealed to the audience the dozens of tattoos that envelop his body as if it were a human canvas.

It was the loudest moment of the show.

The "wow effect," it turns out, is not just reserved for works hanging in museums.

The young women in the audience screamed with pleasure, it is not clear whether because of the big hit that sealed the show or because of the partial nudity on stage.

Just, yes obviously.

It's been 20 years since Maroon 5's first album was released, and their first ever appearance in the Holy Land was marked "Simon V" on the band's checklist, and apparently the audience's as well.

The show started with the huge hit from 2011, "Moves like Jagger".

The audience enveloped the audience in love, Levin's voice sounded great, and the energies from the audience translated into a mesmerizing rendition of the familiar song, to which was added a surprising guitar solo.

It was hard not to recall the insane energies that Mick Jagger poured onto the stage at Yarkon Park at a 2014 Rolling Stones performance.

Without stopping between songs, the show went straight to the next performance with "This Love" from the band's debut album.

The rapid transition from hit to hit, with no chronological connection, was refreshing.

The mix to the beat of Jim Klas Herz's "Stereo Hearts" already felt like a work of art in itself, and the audience that recognized the approaching chorus began to sing it even before Levin.

It was a declaration of love and seriousness by the local audience to perform on stage.

Still, something was missing.

Even the impressive accuracy of the rhythm unit behind Levin failed to atone for the feeling that it was another day at work for the members.

Even the singer's expected monologue, son of a Jewish father, about the "excitement" of arriving in Israel, felt like an engineered public relations announcement.

Between the strong opening and the sweeping encore there was a small belly performance, in which Maroon 5's music turned out to be a pretty standard pop.

Even boring.

Levin's voice is clear and beautiful and he mantles the catwalk to the delight of the audience, but something in his energies felt unintentional.

What's more, as usual, the huge Golden Ring area in Hayarkon Park kept the real fans away from the stage, which affected the atmosphere.

Despite this, several emotional records were recorded at the show.

In such a painful security period, and while very few international performances of this magnitude even come to Israel, it was exciting to see Adam Levin take the Israeli flag from the audience and raise it to the stage.

National pride also erupted in the audience in applause for the character of Gal Gadot, who appeared on the giant screens as part of the famous clip of "Girls Like You".

A reminder of the beauty and power of music.

And there was also one exciting moment that alone was worth the ticket price.

Levin told how he sat on the balcony of his hotel in Tel Aviv and noticed a young girl armed with a guitar playing on the promenade.

Levin invited the anonymous singer to perform with him, in what will surprisingly become the highlight of his show.

Yes, people spent hundreds of shekels to see a group of musicians from California - but in the end the show was stolen by a young Israeli woman who routinely appears next to the bike path of the promenade.

Coral Bismuth joined the band for the performance of "Sunday Morning" from the band's first album, melting together the feelings of nostalgia with the pride of the local product.

The 27-year-old Bismuth, who like most humans has never performed in front of an audience of 60,000 people, did not seem stressed by the situation.

Her duet with Levin was a reminder of how much power there is in music.

How much happiness and beauty.

Her guitar playing, which seemed effortless, was so beautiful it was hard to believe it was her first time on a stage of this kind.

It was not a perfect show, far from it.

The stage was huge but did not present something we had not seen before.

The video art was trivial.

The performance was accurate on the verge of artificiality, with no room for improvisation.

The band sang all of its big hits, but without any special energy.

And on the other hand, 60,000 smiling faces do not lie.

The River of People that flooded Pharmacist Avenue after the show was happy after an hour and a half of mostly successful pop music, and mostly fun.

In a country like ours, and certainly recently, an hour and a half of fun is not at all a product that can be underestimated.
