After 21 years, and because it is no longer able to replicate the success - Apple announced tonight (Tuesday) that it is parting ways with the iPod - the company's music player that led to the revolution and redefined the digital music industry.
A post published on the company's official website states that production of the latest model in the series launched in 2019, the seventh-generation iPod Touch - will be discontinued, and it will continue to be sold in stores
until stocks run out
.
In 2017, Apple stopped production of the other iPod models - iPod Nano and Shuffle, while the Touch models were adopted by amateurs as the ultimate music player.
"Music has always been a part of our core at Apple, bringing it to hundreds of millions of users through the iPod has more than just impacted the music industry - it has redefined the way we know, listen to and share music," said Apple's senior vice president.

The first iPod was created in 2001 and sold for $ 399.
It included 5GB of storage, FireWire input for data transfer and a rotating physical control wheel (which was revolutionary and incredibly convenient in its day).
"Your entire music library is in your pocket. The iPod is an MP3 player, with CD sound quality, and it supports all popular music formats," the late CEO Steve Jobs explained at the announcement.
At the time Apple entered the music market, MP3 players were expensive and rare, and the ability to import songs into a computer or mobile device and play them in the order the listener chose, was considered a groundbreaking feature.
However, according to many, one of the disadvantages of the product -
which started a new era and made Apple one of the largest and most profitable companies in the world
- was the synchronization using iTunes software (instead of just copying the songs to the device from the computer).
At the same time, in 2003 Apple set up the iTunes Store, its online music store, which led other companies to open similar stores, including Amazon MP3 which was launched in 2007.
