The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections has fallen slightly again.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value on Wednesday morning as 507.1.

On Tuesday the incidence was 522.7, compared to 591.8 a week ago.

The value quantifies the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants over a period of seven days.

As the RKI further announced on Wednesday, citing data from the health authorities, the number of new infections reported within 24 hours was 97,010, after 107,568 the day before and 106,631 a week ago.

The total number of cases of infection recorded in Germany since the beginning of the corona pandemic has increased to 25,503,878.

According to the RKI, 231 other deaths related to the corona virus were also registered within 24 hours.

The total number of corona deaths recorded in Germany rose to 136,987.

When looking at the values, it should be taken into account that individual countries do not report data every day of the week.

This in turn leads to late registrations on the following days.

A comparison of daily values is therefore difficult.

Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - partly because not all infected people have a PCR test done.

Only these count in the statistics.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach has described the failure of general vaccination as a "disappointing experience".

"We would have made it easier for all of us for the fall if we had achieved that," said the SPD politician on Tuesday evening on the ARD talk show "Maischberger".

In addition, party tactics were involved in the vote in the Bundestag.

Lauterbach pointed out that, as Federal Minister of Health, he alone would not have been able to submit an application from the government to the Bundestag.

"I can't do that in a coalition where I have to come to an agreement with other partners." When it came to Corona, there were often different positions - "the FDP on the one hand and I on the other," he said.

He had succeeded in asserting himself on many points, but a government application for general vaccination would not have been possible without the FDP.
