Some areas in India and Pakistan have been kneeling in recent months under unprecedented heat waves, exposing more than a billion people to extreme and dangerous heat conditions - with no relief visible on the horizon.

A more common measure in meteorology circles but almost unknown outside of them, is the measurement of a "wet bulb" (wet bulb), a measurement that weighs the heat load as well as moisture, and in fact the effect of the combination on our ability to cool the body through sweating (evaporation of fluids into air ).

The rise in this index is worrying - because it means that certain areas will reach a heat load that will not allow humans to live: when a wet thermometer measures the normal body temperature, around 36 degrees Celsius, sweat can no longer evaporate, which means we lose the body's natural heat regulation In these areas.

A person who stays in these areas will simply die from overheating of the body.

A study published in May 2020, found that heat and humidity in some parts of the world are already placing a site for human survival.

The study found that parts of South Asia, including India and Pakistan, coastal areas and the southwestern United States, as well as areas around the Persian Gulf, have experienced conditions "that do not allow or approach prolonged human physiological tolerance."

In the past month, temperatures in Pakistan and northwestern and central India have soared above 37 degrees over a long period of time, with the highest average temperature in April ever measured.

As the heat wave is expected to spread to more tropical areas and coastal areas, the danger of reaching critical wet thermometers will also rise.

"Climate change is causing extreme heat events to become more frequent and severe," Frederick Otto, a climate scientist from the Royal College London, told NBC.

"If we have to do one thing to adapt, it has to be heat,
