Initiated calls for repair by car manufacturers are a matter of routine, the vast majority relate to the suspicion of problems in various assemblies of vehicles.
However, the repair announcement issued by Mercedes a few days ago is unusual due to the fact that it encompasses a very large amount of vehicles, estimated at 300,000 units worldwide, as well as the fear that it is a malfunction in the car's brake booster, a component of paramount safety importance.
The test focuses on rust (corrosion) that may develop on parts of the brake booster ("booster").
Due to the fear of a failure that might arise in it, the manufacturer very unusually ordered an instruction to the car owners involved to immediately stop driving the vehicles involved until an inspection or replacement of the relevant assemblies is performed.

The current amendment call includes three of the manufacturer's models, two SUVs of the ML and GL models and the minivan R-Class manufactured between the years 2004-2016, these models were also very popular in the personal import channels to Israel.
According to the manufacturer's announcement, in Israel the repair covers 1,577 vehicles, about 11% of all relevant models.
In coordination with the Ministry of Transportation, the car owners will be summoned by the importer to inspect the vehicle at its service centers.
The latter will also provide transportation solutions to customers until the recall is made.
The test lasts 10 minutes and if repair is required, it is expected to last 4 hours.

In general, the brake amplifier in cars is a critical part of the car's braking system.
Its function, as its name implies, is to increase the braking force and "translate" the pressure on the brakes into a system that is later responsible for attaching the pads to the brake plates.
Because the principle of operation of the system rests on the creation of a vacuum by drawing air from the intake manifold of the engine, corrosion in its parts may also lead to air escape from it and impair its efficiency.
Signs of a problem with the brake booster will usually be a harder-than-usual brake pedal or in other cases a "stutter" of the engine when the brakes are applied, due to the "pull" of too much air from the intake manifold that feeds it.
