Electric cars are very trendy.

According to a Bitkom survey, 12 percent of Germans are considering buying a Stromer in the next two years.

Berlin – The demand for electric cars is still booming.

Last year, the Stromer increased significantly in terms of new registrations.

As a result, around 618,500 purely electric cars and 566,000 plug-in hybrids were registered in Germany as of January 1, 2022.

The total share of registered vehicles is just 1.3 or 3.4 percent.

However, this is likely to continue to rise in the coming years, as a representative survey carried out at the end of March on behalf of the IT industry association Bitkom shows.

According to this, 12 percent of those surveyed are considering buying an electric car in the next two years.

That is two percent more than in January.

Part of the reason for the increased interest in electric vehicles is the high cost of petrol and diesel.

When asked whether there was a connection with the increased fuel prices, eight percent answered "Yes, absolutely".

15 percent of respondents indicated that there was a partial connection.

However, the majority (71 percent) stated that they had toyed with the idea even before the price explosion at gas stations.

Many customers are not deterred by the long waiting times or lower government subsidies.

The plans of the federal government envisage that from 2023 only pure electric vehicles will be subsidized by the environmental bonus.

Electric cars are a trend: Germans want to promote digital mobility offers

“Germany wants to be independent of Russian oil imports soon and has to do without fossil fuels altogether in the future.

This cannot succeed if more than 40 million conventionally operated cars continue to roll on our roads," says Bitkom CEO Dr.

Bernhard Rohleder.

"We therefore need rapid expansion of e-mobility, charging infrastructure and intermodal and digital mobility overall."

According to this, around three quarters of people would like greater support for digital offers for more comfortable and environmentally friendly mobility in Germany.

72 percent emphasized that electromobility must be strongly promoted.
