They were fishing on a dike when they were surprised by the swell.
Three members of the same family lost their lives on the evening of this Thursday, after being swept away by a wave in Plogoff, a town in Finistère, reports Le Télégramme.
Between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., a family of six was fishing on the Pors Loubous dike, near the Pointe du Raz, when a wave submerged it, according to testimonies collected by the local newspaper.
Three of the members of this family, a 33-year-old woman, her fifty-year-old companion and a 12-year-old boy, were swept away by the swell.
Their bodies were recovered that evening.
Three other children witnessing the scene and in a state of shock were taken care of by firefighters and taken to hospital.
A dangerous area
The waves were very high at the end of the day Thursday, making any activity in the area dangerous, recalls the mayor of Plogoff, Joël Yvenou, to the Telegram: “There are circumstances which make the coast dangerous here, I put people be warned, you have to be extremely careful.

A large rescue system had been deployed to find the three missing family members, mobilizing around forty firefighters from Quimper, Douarnenez and Concarneau in particular, as well as around twenty soldiers.
Helicopters, a National Society for Sea Rescue dinghy and fishing boats had covered the area as part of the search.
