These are not amazing days for Mercedes, as a large-scale recall threatens the old company's reputation.

And yet, its prestige is preserved in the historical aspect, and even more so.

Yesterday (Thursday) a very rare model of the 1955 Mercedes SLR-300 was sold for an imaginary sum.

How imaginary?

Try $ 143 million.

The auction house Sotheby's announced that it had sold the car for 135 million euros, 143 million dollars (or 481 million shekels, if you are in the segment of speaking in Hebrew).

This recorded the purchase of the most expensive vehicle in history, with the previous record standing at "only" $ 70 million.

This was a Ferrari GTO that was sold in 2018 privately.

The most expensive vehicle Sotheby's sold was a 1962 Ferrari GTO 250 - for $ 48 million.

The bidder was a luxury car dealer named Simon Kidstone.

He did not do it for himself, but for an anonymous purchaser, as is quite common in such cases.

The sale took place on May 5 in Stuttgart, Germany, and included end customers of Mercedes only.

The vehicle, the Uhlenhaut Coupe, was named after the car designer Rudolf Ulenhaus and was only one of two manufactured in 1955.

Its production was based on the W 196 R model used by Mercedes at the Grand Prix.
