One push of the button and the car has a different license plate: In the USA, police officers have stopped a Mercedes with James Bond technology.

Irvine (USA) - When "Q" equips James Bond's car, the pursuers usually have nothing to smile about.

At the push of a button, 007 can squirt oil onto the road, extend tire slashers or even fire rockets.

Yet another gadget is helpful on the secret agent escape: a license plate that changes at the touch of a button.

And with just such a technique, the police in Irvine, California, have now pulled a Mercedes from the road - but that wasn't the only "criminal" device on board the car.

As a police officer you experience a number of strange things: in Jena, the officers pulled two young people out of traffic on moving crates of Coke, in Hamburg an Audi driver drove right through the middle of the train station and in Hagen, after an accident, a car driver showed the officers a joke driver's license.

But what police officers in the USA have now discovered on a Mercedes-Benz C-Class they have probably never seen before in reality.

Police stop Mercedes with "license plate changer" - a resident had alerted the officials

A resident had alerted the officials about a suspicious vehicle - and when they checked it, they could hardly believe their eyes: a device was installed at the rear of the Mercedes with which the license plate could be changed at the touch of a button.

A video shows how amazingly well the construction works.

Police stop Mercedes with "number plate changer" - and find stolen goods inside

As it turned out, the two occupants - a 37-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man - apparently went on a thief spree with the Mercedes C300.

The officers found burglary tools and stolen goods in the car, which came from vehicle break-ins.

They also discovered another sophisticated technical device inside the Mercedes: a pump that the two used to draw off petrol from other vehicles.

The couple was arrested and charged with burglary and vehicle theft, among other things.
