The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports
64,437 new infections
within 24 hours.
That is 21,815 fewer cases than on Tuesday a week ago, when 86,252 corona infections were reported.
The nationwide
seven-day incidence
drops to
307.2
from 312.1 the previous day.
159 other people died
in connection with the virus.
This increases the number of reported deaths to 138,485.
Despite the currently sharply falling numbers, the focus is already on autumn.
More cases are to be expected again in the colder months of the year.
The German Teachers' Association accuses politicians of insufficiently preparing schools for the coming school year in view of the pandemic.
"Politicians are not doing their homework on the topic of pandemics and schools," says association president Heinz-Peter Meidinger to the editorial network Germany (RND).
The course must already be set for safe teaching in the coming school year.
"In an autumn wave, masks can be a decisive factor in keeping schools open." At the moment, however, the federal states lack the legal basis to order masks to be compulsory in schools across the board.
Doctors: Ordering vaccines in bulk doesn't make sense
There is also criticism of the federal government’s approach to the virus from the medical side.
The German medical profession considers it premature that the government has already ordered new corona vaccines for 830 million euros.
"It only makes sense if these vaccines are already adapted to the new virus variant, i.e. are more effective than the previous ones.
But we don't yet know exactly what to expect," said the President of the German Medical Association, Klaus Reinhardt, of the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung".
It is also important to clarify whether further vaccinations would really bring an advantage.
There are conflicting study results for the four vaccinations.
“You have to take a close look at that and only then decide whether it is necessary to purchase a vaccine of the magnitude mentioned,” said Reinhardt before the start of the German Doctors’ Day.
The medical president criticized that the traffic light’s corona policy was no better than that of the previous government: “Within the coalition there are very different ideas about how to deal with corona, which leads to a lurching course and confusion.”
Above all, the communication from Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) was “quite strange”.
For example, when he suddenly reversed the decision to suspend the quarantine obligation in a television show.
"I have the impression that the minister sometimes makes very lonely decisions," said Reinhardt of the "FAZ".
