Unlike stopping, double parking is prohibited and can result in hefty fines.
But there is one exception.
Munich – The search for a parking space in big cities is a tiresome subject to which Herbert Grönemeyer dedicated the song “Mambo” back in 1984.
He spends hours looking for a parking space because there are so many cars on the road.
Almost 40 years later, this song has lost none of its topicality.
On the contrary, there are even more cars rolling on Germany's roads.
And because parking spaces are still scarce, people often park in the second row.
But is that even allowed?
The general rule is: Parking in the second row is prohibited according to Section 12 of the Road Traffic Act (StVO).
The legislator only provides for an exception to this regulation for taxis if they let passengers board or disembark.
However, they must ensure that nobody is endangered or hindered.
Other than parking, double stopping is allowed.

Parking in the second row: there is a risk of an expensive fine
The situation is somewhat different when drivers only want to stop briefly, for example to get in and out or to load and unload.
This is also permissible in the second row and the same rules apply as for taxis.
This means that no one may be obstructed and at least two cars must fit next to each other.
However, stopping in the second row is tricky, because what many drivers don't know is that if you stand for more than three minutes, you won't stop, you're already parking.
In addition, the vehicle must always be in sight in order to drive the car away if necessary, so that the break in the journey counts as stopping.
Parking in the second row: A fine of up to 110 euros is possible
Anyone who violates these conditions risks high fines, as "advocard.de" reports.
Accordingly, illegal stopping in the second row is punished with a fine of 55 euros.
In the case of a disability, this increases to 70 euros, and there is also a point.
It is even more expensive in the event of a hazard (80 euros, one point) or illegal stopping resulting in an accident (100 euros, one point).

Anyone who parks in the second row must also expect a fine of at least 55 euros.
In the case of a disability, it is already 80 euros and a point in the register of traffic offenders in Flensburg.
Drivers who park in the second row for more than 15 minutes will be fined 85 euros.
There is also a point.
The situation is similar if there is also a disability or danger (90 euros, 1 point).
In the case of illegal parking in the second row resulting in an accident, the fine increases to 110 euros plus one point in Flensburg.
Parking in the supermarket car park can also be expensive.

Double parking: Whoever has been parked should collect evidence
Anyone being served by a second-row parker should document the situation with evidence.
Means: take photos of the parked car and its license plate and write down the contact details of witnesses and then file a report with the police.
However, this effort should only be made if you cannot ignore the fact that you are being parked - for example, because you urgently need your car in this situation.
In addition, illegal parkers can also be reported easily via the app.
However, calling the police is not advisable, as the illegal parkers have usually already driven away by the time the police arrive.
