On June 1st, the tax on fuel will drop.

Motorists who expect the relief to be passed on immediately could be disappointed.

Despite the lower fuel tax from 1 June, refueling in Germany may only gradually become cheaper.

The tax burden on fuel sold at filling stations is gradually falling, according to the Federal Ministry of Finance on Monday (May 30).

If fuels were already delivered to the gas station in May, they are still subject to the old and higher taxes.

These fuels would be sold gradually, possibly even in June.

Despite tax cuts, refueling could only gradually become cheaper

Because of the rise in energy prices, the federal government lowered

the tax on fuel

in June, July and August .

The energy tax does not only apply when filling up, but in refineries and tank farms.

However, the mineral oil companies are not obliged to pass on the tax reduction to their customers.

Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) wrote on Twitter on Monday: that the “tank discount” reaches people is now “the task of the Cartel Office and Co.”.

The ADAC has already announced that it will closely monitor

price developments at the pump

and demands: “We expect that the tax reduction will be passed on to consumers in full from June 1st.

In addition, given the inflated level, there is ample potential for price cuts.”

Tank discount: rush to gas stations expected on June 1st

In the course of the planned

energy tax relief for petrol and diesel

from June 1, the petrol station industry had prepared for possible bottlenecks at the petrol pumps.

"Drivers should act with a sense of proportion at the turn of the month and have enough fuel in the tank," it said on

ADAC.de

- so that  they might not have

 to drive to refuel until

a few days after June 1st .

Tip: The current prices at the gas stations can be compared with one another, for example using a corresponding app.

Before June 1st: Increase in petrol prices according to ADAC

Before the tax relief from June 1st,

fuel prices rose sharply

again.

Both

petrol

and

diesel

have become several cents more expensive compared to last week, as the ADAC announced on Monday (May 30).

For example,

Super E10

cost 2.129 euros per liter on a nationwide daily average on Sunday.

That is 3.9 cents more than on Tuesday last week.

Diesel cost 2.026 euros – an increase of 3.2 cents per liter.

With

E10

, an upward trend that has been going on for about a month is continuing: at the end of April, the fuel was more than 17 cents cheaper than it is now.

At

diesel

on the other hand, it means a trend reversal after several weeks with a downward trend.

The ADAC criticizes both values as too high.

However, he attributes the recent increase to higher oil prices.
