Electromobility is taking off, the number of registrations for electric vehicles is breaking records.

These models made it into the top ten last year.

1 / 1010th place: BMW i3.

On the market since 2013 and still quite popular: 12,178 BMW i3s were newly registered in 2021.

Nevertheless, the production of the city electric vehicle with a range of almost 300 kilometers will end this year after a total of 250,000 units without a successor.

Price: from 39,000 euros.

2 / 109th place: Fiat 500. The current model of the small car, also known as the Fiat 500e or Fiat 500 Elektro, is only offered as an electric car.

In 2021 he found 12,516 customers.

Depending on the size of the battery, the small but characterful city runabout from the Stellantis Group can cover a distance of 190 to over 300 kilometers.

Price: from 26,790 euros.

3 / 108th place: VW ID.4.

The crossover variant of the well-behaved ID.3 basic model with a larger interior and some off-road capability was registered 12,734 times last year.

VW is very optimistic about the range of the top version at 518 kilometers.

Price: From 46,515 euros.

4 / 107th place: Škoda Enyaq iV.

The technical offshoot of the VW ID.3 and ID.4 on the MEB platform is slightly longer at 4.65 meters and thus fulfills the usual brand image as an alternative for the family.

The e-SUV with an official range of up to 500 kilometers convinced 13,026 buyers and lessees.

Price: from 46,515 euros.

5 / 106th place: Hyundai Kona Electric.

In contrast to the new Ioniq 5, Hyundai has been offering the Kona with different drive versions, and the electric car that has been sold since 2018 has had 17,240 new registrations.

The engines deliver 136 or 204 hp, the maximum range is 484 kilometers.

Price: from 35,650 euros.

6 / 105th place: Smart EQ Fortwo.

As with the BMW i3, the end of the electric dwarf is sealed.

In the future, electric cars will come from China and as larger SUVs.

Despite its measly range of officially 153 kilometers, the original found 17,413 buyers.

Price: from 21,940 euros.

7 / 104th place: Renault Zoe.

The current version of the French city electric car failed the crash test (zero stars!), but with 24,736 new registrations it was quite popular in this country.

Thanks to a maximum range of up to 395 kilometers, it is also suitable for longer trips.

Price: from 33,140 euros.

8 / 103rd place: VW ID.3.

The basic model of the VW Group's "modular electric drive kit" has long been considered the electric VW Golf, even if some Stromer fans would have liked a more exciting appearance.

The ID.3, with its official range of up to 553 kilometers, has already sold more than 100,000 vehicles across Europe, with 26,693 registrations in Germany.

Price: from 36,960 euros.

9 / 102nd place: VW e-Up.

Its great popularity leads to its greatest disadvantage: the small electric vehicle, which has been registered 30,797 times, is sold out again and again, which ultimately also led to a strong price increase.

A range of up to 260 kilometers is ok for this size.

Price: from 26,895 euros.

10 / 101st place: Tesla Model 3. The entry-level model from the electric car pioneer clearly secured pole position with 35,262 new registrations and even made it to the top of the overall charts for all cars on a weekly basis. According to the factory, the range is up to 547 kilometers .

Flensburg – high fuel prices, government subsidies, great driving performance – and last but not least, a good environmental conscience: electric cars are booming.

Around 365,000 pure electric vehicles (most of them with batteries and a few with hydrogen drive) were newly registered last year.

In addition, there was almost the same number of plug-in hybrids, although their relieving effect on the climate is disputed.

The hit list of the pure Stromer (BEV for Battery Electric Vehicle) dominate compact and small models - and those from the VW Group.

Some still new, but already very popular vehicles such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the BMW i4 or the Cupra Born do not appear yet, as the production and sales figures are only just building up - and it is because of the chip crisis and the lack of wiring harnesses due to the Ukraine -War continues to cause delays and long delivery times.

In any case, the uncertainty about the innovation premium does not seem to curb the desire to buy: This year, too, the number of registrations is heading for a record.
